Connell Hill Reaches Half Way Point of SJI Summer Horse League

The SJI Summer Horse League hit the way mark as jumping continued on Thursday at Connell Hill when the final will be held on Thursday 30^th July at 10.00 am where competitors are required to jump at four legs to qualify.  The beautiful morning clouded over and rain crept in as Judge, Katy Saunders, rolled the show into action over tracks designed in the outdoor arena by Course Designer, Ray Buchanan.  Local lady, Pauline McKeown took the first double clear of the day on her own mare ‘Touludo’.  And not letting the dust settle the show moved to the 90 cm class which saw Kevin Mackey jump a top notch double clear on, Cindy Cunninghams’ mare, ‘CS Indian Moondust’.  Clare Spillane Pattison then set the standard as she opened the 1.0 m class with a double clear on, Ann Spillanes’ mare, ‘Cor De La’ with Harriet Bell closing it claiming double clear on her own mare ‘Ballybreagh Ryans Girl’.  Passion for this most elite sport was evident as riders and their mounts all turned out in style with grooms still adding the last minute touches.  With previous tracks wetting the appetite to get going Ray adjusted the track and Katy invited competitors to walk the course for the 1.10 m class which saw Ronald Ross carefully navigate to jump the first double clear on his own gelding ‘Cluedo’.  This most pleasurable day saw Gary Marshall take the first double clear in the 1.20 m class on his own stallion ‘Claudio’ with David Taylor closing it with a superb double clear on his own gelding ‘Cruising For Pleasure’.  Gary Marshall then ended the day winning the 1.30 m class on this very talented ambitious stallion ‘Claudio’ with Kevin Mackey kicking into second place on, Kathleen Gallaghers’ gelding, ‘Touch Star’.  So don’t forget – ‘half way mark’ -, four more legs before the final on Thursday 30^th July so still time to qualify, jumping will continue next Thursday at 10.00 am; contact Gillian on 078 0317 8009 or Grace on 077 6588 4254 for further details/information.
