Connell Hill’s Autumn Spectacular Horse Show

Connell Hill hosted their annual Autumn Spectacular Horse Show on Saturday and as the sun came out and the day became warmer the competition grew as Killian Clarke adjusted the outstanding tracks.  This exciting day fired off with the 80 cm class and taking the first presentations of the day jumping double clears were Adele Dallas from Moneymore on her own ‘Flaming Felix’ and David Taylor on, Anthony Wrights’, ‘Furisto Girl’.  The horse boxes and lorries began to fill the parking lots and spectators filed into the viewing gallery making this one huge family day out.  The rainbow coloured arena was made ready with final tweeks for the 90 cm class which saw amongst the = first placings Aoife Carr on, Eavan Whites, ‘Kaleidoscope’.  This thrilling day saw competitors await the 1.0 m class as Killian and the arena crew adjusted the track and the clocks set for this challenge where riders were asked to demonstrate their talent of steering their magnificent steeds over the fast forward course.  Taking the crown speeding home first was Helen Pearson-Murray on her own ‘Cyrano Buttercup’ with Gareth Clingan on Lisa Corrys’ ‘Meribel Rock’ jumping into second and Deborah Palmer taking third on Amy Blacks’ Lissangle Luxzavella’.  Throughout the day the evidence of the behind scenes of many hours of hard work was apparent as riders took their challenge with the presentation of both being undeniably high highlighting the dedication for this most loved equine sport; and as the day became more fast and furious as competitors strived to jump these demanding tracks in a bid to win Emma Jackson pulled out all the stops winning the 1.10 m class on Ronnie Hollingers’ ‘Creevagh For Sure’ and then again cruised into first place on Jessica Finnegans’ ‘Sunday Cruise’ in the 1.20 m class.  Jumping in any class the idealistic ‘plan’ is to win the pole position which saw Gwen Scotts swift and nippy turns honour her as she took first on Sharon Eadies’ ‘My Plan’ with Kirsty Parke picking up second on Aylwin Parks’ ‘Bayan de la Bouverie’ and also third on ‘Cute Lady’.  This concluded a tremendous day thoroughly enjoyed by everyone with a huge thanks from Connell Hill to Killian Clarke for designing the first rate tracks, Judges David Greene and Julie McLernon, the arena crew, grooms, competitors, and all who joined us.  There will be no SJI Horse League Show next Saturday 11^th October but will  continue on Saturday 18^th October at 9.30 am classes 80 cm – 1.30 m where everyone will be welcomed.
