First Qualifier of £1,000 Indoor Derby League at Connell Hill
Connell Hill warmly received competitors who travelled to compete at the first league date of this ever popular £1,000 Indoor Derby League on Sunday, the second qualifier will be held on Sunday 2nd November with the final scheduled for Sunday 9th November; shows at 10.00 am. The 60 cm and 70 cm classes first placed will each receive £50.00, first placed in the 80 cm and 90 cm classes will each receive £200.00 and the winner of the 1.0 m class will receive £500.00 at the final with prizes in kind up to sixth placing kindly sponsored by Doagh Farm Feeds and Baileys Horse Feeds. Competitors must attend 1 league date to be eligible to compete for prizes in the final. This competitive show which comprises a combination of show jumps, working hunter and portable cross country fences commenced with the 60 cm class which saw presentations to riders following in well know footsteps going to Jodie Creighton on ‘Monarch’ taking first, Annie Courtney-Cadam on ‘Pugsy’ picking up second and Adam Sossick taking third on ‘Loughview Sweet Delight’. The top rider of the 70 cm class was Elisha McNama taking first on ‘Flynn Rider’ with Alison Smith jumping into second on ‘Jumpingdale Viola’. The arena crew got their skates on and quickly adjusted the course for the 80 cm class which saw some cracking rounds of jumping with Roberta McClurg taking the honours of first on ‘Drumiller Heyday’ and Simone Leathem snatching second on ‘Willow’. Throughout the day it was undoubtedly encouraging to see the younger athletes as they journey in this most elite equine sport turn out in full show attire saluting their judge. This winsome day grew more exciting as the 90 class commenced with Joanne Jarden claiming first on ‘Bonnie’ and Barbara Dixon taking a most deserved second on ‘Belle’. As everyone enjoyed the day all to soon it was the final class, the 1.0 m class, and once again it was Joanne Jarden who stood in pole position with the very appropriately named ‘Creating A Storm’ and Laura Wylie taking a very honourable second on ‘Perhaps B’.
There is still an opportunity for all ‘Who Dares To Win’ to qualify for the final of this opulent show on Sunday 2nd November at 10.00 am.
