Lucy Stewart and “Holly” came home victorious over the 60cm course

Not golf or tennis on the green but the third leg of the Laurel View Outdoor Derby League for the first time this year making it onto grass on Sunday 20th July.

The derby course built on the cross country playground certainly presented competitors with plenty of variety, with the many different fences and numerous twists and turns.

Who would be up for the challenge?  First to test the course were the 60cm competitors and two of the competitors managing a clear round, meant that it was down to the jump off to decide the placing’s.  Lucy Stewart and Holly pulled off the fasted time over the jump off fences earning the red rosette, while Aimee Davis and Addy were shade slower earning them the blue.

Up with the fences to 70cm, two super clear rounds put Miriam Wright on The Castletown Lad up against Clare Gilchrist on Laurel View Silver in the jump off.  A quick clean jump off left Miriam and The Castletown Lad in the top spot, with Claire and Silver coming in second after picking up 4 faults on the jump off.

When it came to the 85cm course, nobody went clear, but Claire Gilchrist and Laurel View Silver obviously benefited from the 70’s class as a warm up, when they took first place over the course with 4 faults.  Jenny Beattie and Daniel notched up a few more faults but they still earned the blue rosette for the class.

Last class of the day was the metre and again clear rounds were being elusive, but Charlotte Dixon rode Cosmo over the course picking up 4 faults to put them in first place.  Charlotte also claimed second place after collecting 8 faults riding her other horse Shadow over the course.
