‘Deja Vu’ for Beth at Connell Hill’s Grand Prix Pony Show

| July 31, 2014

connellhillCompetitors travelled to Connell Hill to take the privilege of jumping extensive tracks in the panoramic outdoor arena at the Grand Prix Pony Show on Sunday.  These young future stars demonstrated their pride in this most elite equine sport with style and appearance as they all turned out professionally in full show attire with their mounts immaculately groomed.  Tracks were artistically displayed utilising the vast expanse of the arena but yet endeavoured to demand hard core split second thinking which lead to a most enjoyable day.  The Newcomers class opened the show with Alex McMaster taking the first red rosette of the day for a double clear on ‘Master Valentine’.  Alex on ‘Master Valentino’ then went on to jump double clear in the 128 cm 70 cm class with Jessica Moore on ‘Drakelands Fabia’.  The 128 cm 80 cm class then saw Jessica jump double clear on ‘Drakelands Fabia’ and ‘Bertie Bassett’ with Alex Finney on ‘Waxwing Marionette’ and Oliver Doherty on ‘Trendy Two Stars’.  Alex Finney then jumped double on both mounts ‘Magneto Cobra’ an d ‘Waxwing Marionette’ with Yiayan Evans on ‘Princess Judy’.  In a flash Ray and his arena crew had the course ready for the 128 cm 90 cm class which saw Yiayan Evans confidently win on ‘Greenlands Flash’ with Natasha Kerr picking up second on ‘Pepsi Mac’.  The last class for the 128 cm ponies was the 1.0 m class which saw double clears for Alex Finney on ‘Some Journey’ and Yiayan Evans on ‘Jazz Beat’.  It was then red rosettes for double clears in the 138 cm 80 cm class for Jessica Moore on ‘My Little Ruby’ and Charlotte Wylie on ‘Paco’, with Charlotte and ‘Paco’ going on to claim another red in the 138 cm 90 cm class with Kathryn Weir on ‘Shannons Delight’.  As the tracks were adjusted throughout this show these young athletes took the challenges and demonstrated skilful riding with fast forward thinking negotiating turns aiming to shave a fraction of a second of the clock providing spectators with huge entertainment and excitement.  Demonstrating these skills was Eve Donnelly on ‘Clononey Jazz’  winning the 138 cm 1.0 m class and Trudie McCoosh on ‘Delphi Princess’ winning the 138 cm 1.10 m class.  The 148 cm 90 cm class rewarded Seaneen McAteer on ‘Hazel Star’ and Ronan McSorley on ‘Booms Choice’ and ‘Super Choice’ with red for controlled riding with perfectly timed strides.  With this result safely tucked under their saddles Seaneen on ‘Hazel Star’ and Ronan on ‘Booms Choice’ then confidently jumped double clears in the 148 cm 1.0 m class.  The 148 cm 1.10 m class was certainly on the edge of the seat stuff with nippy turns and mid air twists with some astounding times as these future stars entered the arena each shaving seconds of the leader time, and the honours of first place was Carl Webb on ‘Future Lady’, second was Niamh McArdle on ‘Burnbrae Jack’ with Leah McVeigh picking a well deserved third on ‘Classiebawn Scardens Jack’.  The final class, the 148 cm 1.20 m class, of this Grand Prix Pony Show which was one filled with excitement, adrenalin, competition and ultimately fun was set and ready for riders to give it their all, and with ‘deja vu’ kicking in as Beth Doherty on ‘Springhill Cosmo’, winners of March 2014 Pony Show, took the challenge and reigned once again with the very honourable first place.

Connell Hill would like to thank Mr Ray Buchanan, Course Designer, Mr David Greene, Judge, Arena Crew for their hard work during this show and of course you, the competitors with accompanying grooms, without whom it would not have been the success it was.
