Train to Gain at Connell Hill
As we approach summer, according to the calendar, thoughts turn to warmer weather, longer day light hours and show time. So why not be prepared and have horses fit and ready to go forward, and where better to grab the opportunity with training shows for horses on Thursdays at 10.00 am, 80 cm – 1.20 m, (during February), and ponies and horses on Friday nights than at Connell Hill. The super new spacious outdoor arena is ideal for warming up before jumping a track of fences indoor with a first class surface. Training is the ultimate base for getting your horse fit so if you want to achieve optimum performance from your horse ‘Train to Gain at Connell Hill’. Taking advantage of Training was Kathryn Watt, as she prepares to take registered shows by storm, jumping the only double clear round in the 90 cm class on ‘Derg Bonnie Rose’. The 1.0 m class saw Paul Tang jump the very able ‘Cain’ double clear gaining confidence with every stride.
Training is so important to the younger athlete as they encounter showing or just for fun so Friday night at Connell Hill is the ideal venue. Gaining confidence jumping clear in the X-Poles class was Grace Murray on ‘Holiday Candlelight’. Competitors warmed up preparing for the 60 cm challenge which saw Victoria Nelson on ‘Willow’ jump a double clear to a huge applause from the spectators and Alex Byrne on her super horse, also named ‘Willow’ demonstrated controlled riding with a double clear round. Competition grew for the 70 cm class which saw Melissa McClenaghan jump a stylish double clear on her new horse ‘Red’. Two young ladies striding forward reaping the rewards of training were Chloe Connon on ‘Moves Like Jagger’ and Cherie McHugh on ‘Morgan’ receive red for double clears in the 80 cm class. Dedication and hard work paying dividends for Seaneen McCoy on ‘Hazel Star’ with a double clear in the 90 cm class. The course set for the 1.0 m class and Yvonne McClenaghan, on her athletic horse, ‘Annie’ jumping double clear with Ella Grant, building a harmonious partnership with her new horse ‘Beautiful Mystery’ claim double clear in the 1.10 m class.
Training Shows will continue next Friday night at 6.30 pm, X-Poles – 1.10 m classes, where everyone will receive a warm welcome with café facilities for hot and cold drinks/snacks.
*Horse Training Show* Thursdays 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th February at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.20 m. This show is ideal for schooling, training or that little bit of extra fitness before jumping registered on Saturdays.
SJI Horse League continues on Saturday 8th February at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m. League dates are 8th, 15th and 20th February, 1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th March, Sunday 13th, Saturday 19th and final on 26th April. Competitors must jump at five league dates to qualify for final.
