Sarah Agnew Takes 1.30M Class at Connell Hill’s SJI League
With only one date remaining, 23rd November, before the final of this SJI Horse league on Saturday 30th November competitors arrived eager to walk the course which was designed to reward smooth riding whilst asking for precision when jumping their magnificent steads. The sunny morning added to the relaxed friendly atmosphere as the show commenced with the 80 cm class with super double clears from Stephen Darragh on ‘Sunbeam’ and Shauna O’Connell on ‘Holly Meadow Star’. The fences went up for the 90 cm class which saw double clears from Ian Moore on ‘Femme Fatale’ and ‘Harly Quin’ and Brian Smyth on ‘Its All About Blue’. The course designer and arena crew set the course for the 1.0 m class with Brian Smyth jumping double clear this time on ‘Limmericks Quarry Gold’. Sparks flew when competitors took to the arena as the clocks were set for the 1.10 m class with a very royal first place going to Simon Scott on ‘Queen of Carrickdawson’ and then skilfully jumping ‘CHS Diva’ into second place and ‘CHS Honeymoon’ into third placing. All eyes were then on Simon as the 1.20 m class took off but not letting Simon have it all his own way as he took first on ‘Dullerton Dawn’ and third on ‘Carnoneybridge Diva’ Sarah Agnew on ‘Liro 6’ gracefully strode into second place. The 1.30 m class got the green light but competitors wanted the red and with this in mind the competition began some went cruising and some on impulse but taking the red was Sarah Agnew on ‘Liro 6’ with Kevin Mackey picking up second on ‘Cruising Lux’ and Mark Reid third on ‘DMS Impulse’.
