Erne Lakeland Riding Club AGM
Erne Lakeland Riding Club held their AGM on Monday 11th November in the Killyhevlin Hotel.
There were 6 new members this year, giving a total of 37 members, both riding and non riding.
Members enjoyed flatwork, dressage and show jumping lessons with tuition from Nessa Toher, Mandi King and a new instructor William Anderson. These lessons enabled riders to compete at both registered and unregistered events throughout Ireland and England.
We enjoyed Club Nights at Thorntons, beach rides at Murvagh, forest rides at Florencecourt and XC go as you please at Drumlins Hounds XC course, always followed by a picnic or pub grub.
Members competed successfully in a number of equestrian disciplines, including Dressage, Show Jumping, Arena Eventing, Le Trec, Working Hunter, XC, one day eventing to name but a few. The club was also represented at the Equifest in Cavan and the Trec Ireland National Championship in Ross House, Mountnugent. Riders also attended ILDRA, BHS and National Trails rides. Plenty of rosettes and prize money was collected throughout the year, well done to all.
Members attended both Riding Club and BHS camps at CAFRE and Castle Leslie where they were lucky to receive expert tuition from a range of fantastic instructors.
We ran a very successful 3-week show jumping league at Ray Thorntons which was very well supported by both club members and the general public. Well done to our club members who came 1st in the Starter Stakes, 1st & 2nd in the 60cm, 1st, 2nd & 3rd in the 75cm and finally 1st and 2nd in the 90cm competitions.
We had lovely New Years Day and Easter rides at Florencecourt followed by a very welcome lunch in the Village Inn. Weather for both was great.
This year we had our annual dinner after Easter in the Killyhevlin hotel when both the food and craic were brilliant. It gave us all an excuse to take off the chaps and boots and get glammed up! Thanks to Jenna for organising this.
With funding from Rural Transport Fund and went to the opening meet at Sligo Races. Some “punters” came home with prize money, some of us just about broke even!
Again this year we travelled to the Royal Dublin Horse Show and had a fantastic day out in brilliant weather. Lovely to watch local horses & riders compete.
Thanks to Maeve, our Chairperson, for her continued dedication to the club and we look forward to another busy year ahead.
Membership is now due for renewal – £15 non riding, £25 Adult full membership and £45 Family membership.
