Katy Connor Does The Double at Connell Hill
It is count down time now as there is only two weeks remaining, 16th and 23rd November, of this SJI League at Connell Hill before the final on Saturday 30th November. The sun appeared bringing no great warmth as the winter chill getting a grip stayed around all day, hence the show sped along as competitors and horses warmed up eager to jump these demanding courses. The day commenced with Andrew McKinney on ‘The Cat’ and Emma Barkley on ‘Tawneybrack Diamond’ jumping superb double clears in the 80 cm class. Hearts starting beating as competitors jumped the 90 cm class with Cookstown man Mark Reid on ‘DMS Heartthrob’ jumping the first double clear round of the class. Following successful double clears in the 1.0 m class Connell Hills’ karaoke king’ Alistair Barr entertained riders and spectators with his singing talents whilst the course was prepared for the 1.10 m class. With everyone now in high spirits the class took off as competitors flew over the course with Alison McLean on ‘Shilow Natal’ taking first place in a very fast time with Katy Connor making an executive decision jumping both her horses ‘Ballyrobin Girl’ and ‘Ballyrobin Nimmerdor’, owned by Mr T McLean, into 6th=. Simon Scott almost took control of the 1.20 m class with first on ‘Dullerton Eclipse’, third on ‘Carnmoneybridge Diva’, fifth ‘Carnmoneybridge Sister Kate’, and sixth ‘Dullerton Dawn’; but giving him a run for his money and snatching second and fourth place was Catherine Drain on ‘Alaska-M’ and Sarah Agnew on ‘Liro 6’. The last class of this most friendly competitive show saw the 1.30 m class go full steam ahead with Catherine Drain going ‘big brother’ watch out here I come taking home first placing on ‘Alaska-M’ with Kevin Mackey cruising home second on ‘Cruising Lux’. A huge thank-you to everyone and grooms not just taking charge of their own riders and horses but also aiding other riders who turn out alone to jump at this family orientated venue.
