On Sunday 15th September Harold Megahey once again stepped onto the podium at the FEI European Championships for Juniors, but this time it was to receive a Gold team medal for Ireland.

Sponsored by local business communications company, Barclay Communications, Harold left for the European Championships in Jardy, France hoping to finish his Junior eventing career with a Gold medal and he did just that.

At the three day event Harold and his horse Chuckelberry competed against sixteen other countries and eighty-nine other riders, finishing first with the Ireland team and sixth individually.

Now at 18 years old and with two successful years in the Junior Ireland eventing team, two European Championships and three European medals, Harold is moving into the young rider/senior eventing field and has ambitions of reaching the Olympics.

With three years left to craft himself into an Olympic rider, Harold will spend the next year in Germany with Dirk Schrade, Germany’s Gold team medal winner at the 2012 Olympics and 2013 European Championships.

Harold explains, “Working with one of the world’s top eventers is an amazing opportunity, there’s no one better to help me reach an Olympic level, than an Olympic Gold medal winner. I am sure it will be a lot of hard work, but I am really looking forward to it.”

Local O2 Centre of Excellence and Harold’s Junior career sponsors, Barclay Communications wish to congratulate the entire Ireland team for their Gold winning performance at the European Championships, and they’ve stated that they’ll continue to support Harold along his Olympic journey.

As Harold flies off to Germany for a year, with his Gold medal we look forward to seeing him return to the Ireland eventing scene with, what’s sure to be a bang.
