Kernan Equestrian Centre RUAS Balmoral Qualifier Sunday 14th April
A qualifier for RUAS Balmoral Show was held at The Kernan Equestrian Centre on Saturday April 14th.
The decision to stay indoors proved to be the right one as although the storms forecast did not materialise the winds were very strong. The first competition, the 2 phase run Amateur kicked off in good time with the A’s going first. Three of these, Paul Carroll on Caballero,Vanessa McDonald on Vanessa’s Pride & Donal Scully on Golden Cruise were placed 1st, 2nd & 3rd respectively and therefore qualified for Balmoral. AA rider Alistair Wilson on Father’s Footsteps took 4th place assuring his place at Balmoral.
The second competition for 5Year Old horses produced a worthy winner in Aoife Dooley on Judy Murphy’s Javas Keltic Summer. Aoife was fifth in of the twelve who got through to the jump off. Aoife’s clear round in a fast time of 37.81secs could not be bettered. She managed to push Daniel Coyle and Pay Back who completed his round in 39.22secs into 2nd place. 3rd went to Luke Campbell on Shanroe Scorpion in a time of 40.14secs.
Next was the 6/7 Year Old event. Eighteen out of the thirty three starters went through to the jump off. The fourth of these to jump clear in a time of 38.86secs was Shane McFadden on Clinton Jack. Shane managed to hold on to his early lead thoughout the competition emerging victorious. Although last to go Daniel Coyle and Touch of Porsch did their level best their time of 40.92secs was just not good enough so had to content themselves with 2nd place. Suzanne Posnett on David Prentice’s Butuela took 3rd place in a time of 41.61secs.
The last competition of the day was the 1.30m class. The standard was very high with nineteen of these going through to the jump off. Course designer Alistair Megahey’s strong courses rode very well whilst proving challenging to horse and rider. First to go James Hogg on Interpreter set up the challenge with a clear in 35.79 secs. He was immediately ousted from the lead by Harry Marshall on BB who ended up in 3rd place.. First place went to the host on the day James Kernan and the grey Ben Mullier who gave an impressive display fininshing on an unbeatable 32.44 secs. James also took 4th on Premier Sport in 35.69 secs.
