Freckleton Marinella Makes Headlines at Connell Hill
The final of the Summer SJI Horse League on Thursday at Connell Hill saw huge competition with riders taking off the brakes and pulling out all the stops in a bid to beat the clock to claim the much coveted first place. The carefully maintained velvet like surface gave riders and horses the confidence to go like the wind thoroughly enjoying this experience. With the sun sparkling of the rainbow coloured fences Ray made the last minute touches to the course and the day tore off with Chirstopher Adger , from Ballymena, taking the first placing of the day on his own gelding ‘Limmerick Sparkle’. The 90 cm class was real edge of the seat stuff as riders made express speed over the course but when Julie McLernon, from Randalstown, bounced into the arena the momentum grew for Julie expertly cut corners nimbly turning into fences burning steel to take poll position on her own mare ‘Freckleton Marinella’ pushing Kevin Mackey, from Dungivan, into second place on Cindy Cunninghams mare, ‘CS Indian Moondust’ who took first place in the League. It was then double trumps for Chelsea Robinson, from Larne, wasting no time as she opened up the throttle careering into first place in the 1.0 m class on, Lorna Robinsons’ ‘Templehill Ludo W Lady’ also winning the League. There was no time for stalling as Ray swiftly adjusted the course for the 1.10 m class which saw Nathan Primrose, from Carrickfergus, exceed the speed limit jumping the first double clear to hold first place throughout the class on, J V Primroses’ stallion, ‘Killyglass Blueprint’ with Noel McKee, from Glenavy, taking a very well deserved first place in the League on his own gelding ‘Keeford Sundance’. The venue buzzed as the excitement grew with riders ‘stepping on it’ which saw Andrea Thompson, from Carrowdore, put her foot down and take the honours of first place in the 1.20 m class on her own mare ‘Nessika Du Courtil’ with Noel McKee once again proudly stand poll position in the league on his own ‘Keeford Sundance’. Kevin Mackey, with much success throughout the day, increased the tempo to triumphantly take first place in the 1.30 m class on, Kathleen Gallaghers mare, ‘Cruising Lux’, with Andrea Thompson taking second on her gelding ‘Zadok’ and Suzanne Posnett third on, Beth Armstrongs’ gelding, ‘Orchard Echo’.
