Elliott’s Treasure Comes to Connell Hill’s SJI Summer Horse League

Connell Hill once again welcomed competitors, all turned out in full show attire, many of whom were fully colour coordinated, to jump at the seventh leg of the SJI Summer Horse League where the final will be held on Thursday 30^th July.  To qualify for this final competitors to have jumped at four league dates and with only one qualifying date remaining, Thursday 23^rd July, the heat is on.  So with the forecast of rain, which did not arrive until after the show ended, Judge, Katy Saunders opened the show for course walking the 80 cm class, designed by Colm Quinn, which saw Stephanie Elliott, from Lisburn, not only the first to jump but also setting the standard for the show claiming the first double clear of the day on her own gelding ‘Nearly A Treasure’.  Ian Moore, from Newtownards, then controlled the 90 cm class jumping double clears on his own ‘Pine Croft Dynasty’ and ‘Sarko’ with Audrey Hunter, from Cullybacky, on her own ‘Cushnahans Zoe’.  Colm then set to work on the 1.0 m class which saw local lady, Pauline McKeown gain points jumping both her horses, ‘Miss Darcy’ and ‘Touludo’ double clear.  This fabulous day then moved to the 1.10 m class and again happily picking up points was Caroline Leighton on her own ‘Simply Fabulous’ from Ballymoney.  The strong 1.20 m class closed with a first class double clear by ‘Jack Diamond (IHR) owned by McLoughlin Bros. and ridden by Edward Little from Ballymena.  Hailing victory in the 1.30 m class was Liam McKee as he cruised home on Olivia McCormacks’ mare ‘Penelope ‘Cruz’ with Philip Gaw scooping second place on ‘Ardnacashel Coovella’ owned by Derek Gaw.

This league will continue next Thursday, 24^th July, and the final will be held on Thursday 30^th July at 10.00 am, with the Autumn League commencing on Saturday 19^th September at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m, as the Grand Prix Horse Show is scheduled for Saturday 5^th September and Ulster Amateur Rider of The Year Show Saturday 12^th and Sunday 13^th September so Connell Hill is all set to get your Autumn off to a flying start, see you all there, everyone welcome.
