Mackey Cruises To Victory at Connell Hills SJI Horse Show
From early Thursday, 9th July, morning Connell Hill became a hive of activity as horse boxes and lorries arrived filling the parking spaces with competitors ensuring they are qualified as the final of this league is only a few weeks away, Thursday 30th July. With the added bonus of sunshine competitors ‘jumped’ at the chance to walk the course which Course Designer, Nigel Jess, had set in the large outdoor arena testing ability of both horse and rider. Judge, Christopher Bogle, quickly rolled the show into action with the first double clears of the day claimed by Pauline McKeown on her own mare, ‘Touludo’ and Walter Stewart on, Brian Barkleys mare, ‘Kah Echo’. Clare Spillane-Pattison, from Tobermore, had a successful day claiming double clears in both the 90 cm and 1.0 m classes on, Ann Spillanes’ mare, ‘Cor De La’. The magnificently displayed 1.10 m class then got under way with Olivia McCormack, from Magherafelt, jumping both her horses, ‘Palinka’ and ‘Fearless Des Terdrix’ double clear. Mark Kinsella had a very successful 1.20 m class jumping Sheelagh Kennedys’ Mare, ‘Magic Cuidam’, and Gillian Lees’ gelding ‘Luidams Diamond’, double clear. The sunshine still shone as the track was set for the final class, the 1.30 m class, which saw Kevin Mackey, from Dungivan, cruise his way to victoriously claim first place on, Kathleen Gallaghers’ mare, ‘Cruising Lux’ with Ronald Ross picking up second place on his own gelding ‘Gilbo VD Gulden Z’.
The final of this league will be held on Thursday 31st July at 10.00 am, 80 cm – 1.30 m, competitors to have jumped at four legs to qualify, contact Gillian on 078 0317 8009 or Grace on 077 6588 4254 for further details/help/information.
