Kernan Equestrian Hold Successful Round of Equestrian Interschools Ireland
The latest round of the Equestrian Interschools Ireland League was held on Saturday 7th February and hosted by Kernan Equestrian Centre, Crossmaglen Co. Armagh. James Kernan the proprietor built the courses for both the Novice and Open team and individual events.
The schools taking part were: ScoilMhuire,Trim; Our Lady’s Castleblaney and Monaghan Collegiate in the Novice Team event.
Scoile Mhuire, Trim and Monaghan Collegiate competed in the Open Team Event.
The day kicked off with the Novice Team event which was won by Monaghan Collegiate. The team consisted of Averil Mackeral on Jojo; Lucinda Kinghan on Sebastian; Alvin McElwaine on Mivvi and Sophie Kinghan on Bongo;
The winner of the Novice Individual was Florence Sheridan on Impish Behaviour,
KingsHospital, Navan; 2nd Jennifer Duffy on GM’s Pride, Our Lady’s, Castleblaney;
3rd Alvin McElwaine on Mivvie, Monaghan Collegiate; 4th JP Meegan on Twilight Silver,
Our Lady’s, Castleblaney;
In the Open Team competition, both teams qualified for the jump off against the clock. First in for Monaghan Collegiate were Victoria McElwaine and Pandora picking up 4 faults at the last fence in 38.15 secs, followed by Ciara Woods and Inchmore Ranger jumping clear in a time of 41.19 secs , good enough to take 1st place
Next in for Scoil Mhuire, Trim was Grace Evans and Bobby followed by Morgan Cummins and Charmer whose clear round in a good time 38.64 secs gave them 2nd place.
The Open Individual competition was run as a one round speed..This proved to be a very exciting competition. The standard of jumping was high with seven combinations producing clear rounds. Second last to go Scoile Mhuire’s competitor Morgan Cummins and North Star ‘s gave a stylish display of jumping and their excellent time of 23.70secs assured them of 1st place. Grace Evans and Bobby (Scoile Mhuire, Trim) who had earlier set the pace finishing on a fast time of 25.98secs took 2nd . Third place went to Ciara Woods and Inchmore Ranger (27.23secs) representing Monaghan Collegiate adding yet another ribbon to their day’s tally.
