Doggarts Show Jumping League Gains Momentum at Gransha
The Antwerp Arena at Gransha Equestrian Centre played host to the Doggarts Showjumping league on 7th and 8th February. Competitors both young and old were delighted to get out competing again after the recent cold snap. Day 1 saw the pony classes get underway with a good turn out in the cross pole class with double clears going to sisters Holly and Lucy Donan, Jack Belton McGlennon, Lauren Taylor and Robbie McCartney. As the fences were raised to 50/60cm class the double clears were Katie Smith on Rusty, Zara Wood and Ballymac Girl and Robbie McCartney and Barley Sugar.
The 60/70cm class was dominated by the girls with Lauren Belton McGlennon, Ellen Douglas and Zara Wood all jumping two faultless rounds. Our pony riders made light work of the showjuming track designed and built by Simon Jackson with Caitlin McKechnie, Hannah Thompson, Ellen Douglas and Phoebe Beaumont all jumping double clear in the 70/80cm class. Cerys Howell dominated the bigger classes on her ponies. Alfie won the 80cm speed class and jumped double clear in the 80/90cm class as did Lulu. Morgan went on to win the 90cm speed class.
It was the turn of the horses on Sunday 8th February. We were delighted to have John McKibbin from Doggarts of Newtownards with us to present the rosettes to our prizewinners. Kicking the day off was the 60-70cm class. Joint winners were Raven Craig, Valery Clegg, Gail Smyth, Gail McKie, Diane McCully and Beth Renshore. Sharing the top spot in the 70/80cm class were Louise McMinn on Bravo and Amanda Jackson on Tara. Kate Spiers took 1st and 3rd in the 80cm speed class with Rosco and Ruby while Louise McMinn and Bravo slotted into 2nd.
Double clears in the 80/90cm class were awarded to Amanda Jackson with Apollo, Michelle McConnell and Bob and Fiona McJury on TouchOcat. A competitive class followed this in the form of the 90cm speed class. Mineview Majortom piloted by Diane McCully took the top spot, Jordana Pawlack with Its an Echo took 2nd while Heather McMillan riding Herbie slotted into 3rd place. Nicola McClelland and Supreme Heights jumped a double clear in the 90cm/1m class. A good entry in the 1m/1m10 class saw Jessica Perry, Caitlin Stewart, Vicky Dobbin and Nicole Barr all go double clear. Joint winners in the 1m10/1m20 class were Nicole Barr and Gino and Hannah Ewart on Chill Out.
League tables can be found at www.granshaequestrian.co.uk. The Horseworld NI Working Hunter league continues on Saturday 14th with the horses and Sunday 15th with the ponies. Saturday 21st is the turn of the Interschools SJ and Sunday 22nd sees the penultimate round of the Chris Semple Photography dressage league. Don’t forget these leagues have their finals in March with a great selection of prizes.
