Spring Run Continues at Ravensdale Lodge Despite Baltic Conditions

| March 31, 2013

After two weeks of intensive competition, Ravensdale Lodge were back to their normal schedule of shows & events this week. Last week the best ponies and riders in Ireland descended on Ravensdale Lodge as the centre played host to the Connolly’s Red Mills Pony Spring Tour Final on Sunday 24th March. With three class and league finals as well as a HSI International selection class for Fontainebleau up for grabs, competition was naturally pretty hot on the day. While the competition may have been hot, the weather was certainly not co operating as the Baltic conditions which have gripped the country for the past few weeks was firmly settled for the day. It was great credit to Ravensdale Lodge’s arenas and facilities that the show ran at all as there had been torrential rainfall countrywide for the past forty eight hours and while many roads were impassable all arenas at Ravensdale were in perfect show condition. The snow also played its part with combinations unable to travel due to being snowed in and while the backdrop of the snow covered Cooley Mountains pained a lovely picture, thankfully for the show organisers at Ravensdale it stayed high on the hills and did not affect the competition. There was some fantastic action throughout the day and all class results can be read further in this article.

Thursday saw the continuation of the Crowne Plaza Dundalk SJI registered horse & pony show with good numbers turning up once again to jump in this competition which runs weekly to 25th April. Arctic conditions may still prevail as we head into the last month of Spring but all Spring leagues at Ravensdale Lodge are reaching their conclusion with only four weeks remaining of competition before the spring / summer season commences and new season schedules will be announced over the coming weeks. The Horseware Ireland sponsored horse & pony training league continued on Friday evening with many combinations delighted to be out again after the terrible weather conditions the previous week. This run of shows continues every Friday to 26th April with usual classes and a start time of 5pm. Arena eventing took centre stage on Saturday and Mackins Horse Feeds of Newry continue to sponsor this league with great weekly class prizes until Saturday 27th April. After a two week break due to St Patrick’s day and the Pony Spring Tour final the week before, dressage enthusiasts were glad to be back in action on Sunday for the Cemac Group sponsored indoor dressage league. Class winners were in for a special Easter surprise as each class winner received a food hamper stuffed with goodies such as preserves, chutney, jams and sauces, this league continues every Sunday to 28th April with a start time of 3pm.
