Week ending 14th December 2014, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

The finals of three autumn / winter leagues were held this week at Ravensdale Lodge and there was great excitement over the three days as combinations battled it out against the clock. First competition up was the final of the SJI registered league on Thursday 11th December. This well supported twelve week league had six classes up for decision with the first being the 80cm class which was won by Drogheda rider Karen Lynch with her own Con Kid Z while Dundalk rider Louise Magill was second with Vanier Sundance. There were quite a few combinations qualified for the 90cm class and a great jump off ensued with Lynn Patterson coming out on top on board her ever reliable Cujo. Second in the 90cm class was Rachel Healy with Patchwork Prince, third place went to Lisa Spratt with Coolcorron Cool Imp, Carlingford rider Conrad Mc Guinness slotted into fourth place while Louise Magill picked up some more prize money by coming home in fifth. The 1m class also saw a good number of qualified combinations take on the clock with Pamela Fox coming out on top with her own Bonny Sir Edward. Lynn Patterson had to settle for second best in the 1m class with Cujo however the points gained in the class were good enough to secure the leading lady rider rug for the combination. Third place in the 1m class went to Mayobridge rider Holly Mc Gahan with Boe’s Al while Dundalk rider Caroline Mc Guirk came home in fourth place with her own Lisbane Callitera. Hannah Joyce won the 1.10m class on Van Clover narrowly beating Leigh Anne Rea and Corraghoe King into second while Lisa Spratt came home third on Rockmont Sasha. John Floody won the 1.20m class on Francie Hughes’ Ballyknock Diamond and slotted into sixth place on Clare Craig’s Craigmanus Hold Up Diamond for good measure. Barry Murphy was another in prolific form in this class placing second and third on Dermot Mc Bride’s Vechtas Rose & Coolrock Dark Angel respectively. Two local riders, Owen Mc Camley from Jonesborough  and Michael Mc Aleese from Ravensdale slotted into fourth and fifth in the 1.20m class, Mc Camley lifting fourth with Belle De Reve Z and Mc Aleese with his own MCA Mc Cool in fifth. Barry Murphy carried his prolific form into the final class of the afternoon by taking first and second place in the 1.30m class with Dermot Mc Bride’s pair, Vechtas Rose and Coolrock Dark Angel respectively. Owen Mc Camley slotted into third place with Belle De Reve Z and in doing so assured him the leading gentleman rider combination and the lovely Ravensdale Lodge rug that came with the accolade. John Floody slotted Craigmanus Hold Up Diamond and Ballyknock Diamond into fourth and fifth place respectively. Floody also picked up the league’s leading rider prize of an overnight stay for two people with breakfast in the four star Ballymascanlon House Hotel courtesy of the Quinn family Ballymascanlon House Hotel.

On to Friday evenings Botanica International indoor horse & pony training league final where there was a great sense of anticipation among the many qualified combinations who were there to compete for the treasure trove of prizes that ranged from smart tablets, Botanica International hampers and Ravensdale Lodge saddle pads. First competition up was the X poles where the very consistent Dearbhla Mc Gahan won league and final in the class riding her own Giggles. Aimee Murphy and Ravensdale Ebony had also been very consistent in the 60cm class, they also had their fair share of luck, drawing the lucky rosette for the Botanica International class prize on many occasions. There was no luck however in her great win in the final, the combination putting in the fastest fault free round to win the class and league, Aimee’s run of luck continued later in the evening when her name was drawn out of the hat by judge Noleen Johnston for the hi tech smart tablet that was on offer to all qualified combinations in the draw. The 70cm class saw 7 qualified combinations battle it out for the prizes on offer with all 7 picking up something for their efforts. Trevor Cardwell had qualified his two horses, Cassie & Harvey for the 70cm final and was not able to decide which one to compete with so he brought both! This canny decision paid rich dividend for the rider who went on to win the class with Harvey and picked up third place with Cassie. Dundalk girl, Jennifer Meegan slotted into second in the class with her own Oreo, Aimee Murphy continued her good run of form, this time on Ravensdale Sage to collect more prizes by finishing fourth which was enough to also win the 70cm league. Fifth and sixth place went to Aislinn Martin, another with multiple entries, Aislinn coming firth on Silverline Charley and sixth on Silverline Cookie while Fionnuala Ni Earcain slotted into seventh with Ravensdale Mo. Eleven qualified combinations took on the clock in the 80cm class with Orla Moriarity coming out on top with her own Thunder. The combination, who have won a class final at nearly every league over the past seven or eight years kept up their good run by setting an unstoppable corner cutting time that no one could equal. Sinead Young put in a great display on her own Jacobi to come second which was also good enough to win the combination the league title as well. Andrew Matthews and Park Fionn came home third in the class while Jennifer Meegan picked up some more prizes by slotting into fourth. Gayle Gilbert and Lily came fifth in the 80cm class while Katie Creegan and Dolly finished sixth in the class. The 90cm class final also saw a large number of qualified combinations, twelve in total, take on the fourteen fences against the clock. Drogheda auctioneer Fintan Sullivan and Muddy put in a great performance to see off his rivals in the class setting the fastest of only two fault free rounds. Emily Molloy riding Ravensdale Ebony was the only other combination to go clear in the class and they finished second to Sullivan & Muddy. Dylan Ward took third place with Trigger, Annie Mc Ginn was fourth with Kilbride Oscar, Emma Leigh Mc Allister was fifth on Lily while 90cm league winners, Sean Bird and Lass had to settle for sixth place in the final. Dylan Ward climbed a couple of places in the 1m class with Trigger, the combination winning the class ahead of Joe Haffey and John L who finished second in the final . Haffey and John L went on to win the 1.10m class and added the 1m & 1.10m league titles to their tally on the evening. Second place in the 1.10m class went to Melissa Mc Kee with Dolly while sister Rachel came third with Buster. Sinead Young crowned a fine twelve weeks of competition by winning the leading points combination with Jacobi and winning the remaining hi tech smart pad for their efforts.

The final league of the 2014 season at Ravensdale Lodge, the Horse First indoor arena eventing league final was held on Saturday 13th December. The main class up for decision was the 85cm class with four qualified combinations eligible to jump for prizes in the final and three of these sitting on 18 points over the twelve week league. Jackie Loughran and her lovely grey mare Zoe secured victory in both league and final by being the only combination to go clear in a thrilling season ending class. Anne Mc Farland from Co. Meath had  to settle for second in the class with her own Flo, the combination  going so close having the fastest time of the afternoon but dropping a pole at the penultimate fence of the season. Third place in the class went to another rider from Co. Meath, this time it was Marie Clare Bellew with Nigarsenes Cruise. So the curtain fell on the 2014 league season at Ravensdale Lodge with only one remaining show at the centre scheduled for Sunday 28th December. The “Bumper” Christmas Show promises to be a great finale for the year and a date for everyone to remember to blow away the excesses of Christmas.
