Bernie Brennan Steps Down as Chair of HSI Show Jumping High Performance Committee
BERNIE Brennan has stepped down as Chairman of Horse Sport Ireland’s Senior Show Jumping committee, having held the position since 2006.
She said last night: “I have greatly enjoyed my time in the role but with a new Olympic cycle commencing it would be a big commitment to take on the role for another four years. I am pleased that that such progress has been made in recent years in establishing a strong professional structure within HSI to support the work of the Team Manager.”
Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Pat Wall acknowledged the contribution Bernie has made in her position as Chair of the High Performance Committee and before that as Vice President of the Equestrian Federation of Ireland, which was the Equestrian Governing Body prior to Horse Sport Ireland being established.
He said: “Bernie Brennan has made a huge contribution to equestrian sport as a Vice Chair of EFI, and as a founder Horse Sport Ireland board member and as Chair of this committee.
“Equestrian sport depends on the commitment of countless volunteers around Ireland who give of their time freely for the betterment of the sport. Bernie Brennan has overseen the establishment and development of High Performance structures in Horse Sport Ireland and has left a lasting legacy,” he said.
“Bernie is an example of the vast force of committed and enthusiastic volunteers who have driven, and continue to help drive this industry forward, and without whom it would be much more difficult for HSI and its affiliates to function. On behalf of the management board and the executive staff I would like to thank Bernie for her time and efforts.”
Pat Wall confirmed that he would Chair the Show Jumping High Performance Committee for 2013. Paul Duffy and James Tarrant will be the other two members along with Team Manager Robert Splaine.
“It is important that people are aware that this is a High Performance Committee not a selection committee, and its role is to oversee the programme. It was suggested that I chair the committee for 2013 to help familiarise myself with the programme and the board supported that suggestion at their meeting yesterday,” Pat Wall said.
