| September 29, 2014

connellhillThe beautiful autumn Saturday morning saw competitors travel to Connell Hill for the third week of the Autumn/Winter SJI Horse League which competitors jump at five league dates to qualify for the final on Saturday 29th November.  Competitors walked the very artistically designed courses, by Killian Clarke, in the indoor arena in preparation for their chosen challenges. The opening class, the 80 cm challenge, saw David Taylor, from Castledawson, control as he jumped double clear on Furisto Girl and CJO Curiosity Lux.  The 90 cm class saw some classic rounds of jumping which saw a perfectly controlled double clear for Joshua Russell, from Newtownards, on Lisbane Classic Clover.  The superb surface aided the horses performance giving riders comfort as they journeyed over these extensive courses achieving double clears.  Showing no fear as the fences rose for the 1.0 m class competitors not hanging around entered the arena which saw Ryan Hunter, from Moneymore, on ‘Feerwerd Carlos’ and Nikita Cochrane, from Carrickfergus, on ‘Vromy’ jump champion double clear rounds.  The ever popular 1.10 m class oozed spirit and enthusiasm which had competitors champing at the bit eager to get down to business and ‘jump’ and ending the class with a successful double clear was Rhona Wilkinson, from ‘Glenavy’, on ‘Rosevale Spirit’.  The show then swiftly moved to the 1.20 m class and once again Killians’ outstanding tracks which demanded power and control with fast hard core thinking as competitors jumped for first place saw Liam McKee, on Olivia McCormacks’ ‘Penelope Cruz’ take first place and with only split seconds saw Kevin Mackey take second place on, ‘Kathleen Gallaghers’, Gregory Courage and third place was again Laim McKee on his own ‘Douglas W’.  It was then the 1.30 m track and with these huge fences set competitors took the challenge to see Bronagh Kelly, from Mallusk, jump her own horse ‘Nimmus’ into first place with Gwen Scott taking a most honourable second on, Sharon Eadies’ ‘My Plan’.  The next league show date is Saturday 11th October at 9.30 am as the Autumn Spectacular Show is next Saturday 5th October, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m commencing at 9.30 am.
