Cash up for Grabs at Connell Hill
Connell Hill welcomed competitors who arrived to jump at the ‘cashjumpingireland’ show on Sunday hoping to take a place and go home with winnings. This show aimed at those who not affiliated to SJI can gain confidence to compete at this level and to then progress or indeed jump their novice horse introducing them to their future career in the world of show jumping. This is indeed enhanced by the superb highly maintained surface offering first class rideability at this venue. The first class of the day saw two young ‘rivals’ battle it out for first place but with literally mid air turns and nippy side steps amongst the jumps Jodie Creighton took the honours of first place on ‘Monarch’ with Chloe Connon taking the most deservedly second place on ‘River Island Turbo’. Jumping into first place in the 70 cm class was Georgie McBride on ‘Jumpingdale Tyrone’ with Ben Maybin taking second on his super pony ‘Tom Thumb’. The 80 cm pony class saw young athletes give it their all to ‘grab the cash’ which saw self control with proficient riding earning first place for Cherie McHugh on ‘Celtic Morgan’ and Ben Maybin, once again in the ribbons, pick up second on ‘Tom Thumb’ and crossing the line in first place for the horses was Courtney Patterson on ‘Emeroo Cross’. Jodie Creighton then took the reins and rocked into first place on ‘Rockvale Tia Maria’ in the 90 cm pony class with Melanie Moorhead scooping first on ‘Lady Pheonix’ in the horse class. This relaxed but competitive fun filled day then saw Leah Hutchinson dancing her way to first place in the 1.0 m pony class on ‘Leahs Dancer’ with Brittany McAfee travelling home with first
place in the horse class on ‘Ballysheen Lad’ and then first place in the 1.10 m class on ‘Ballysheen Lad’ and second on ‘Clovers Girl’. Thanks to everyone who competed and hope to see you all back next week for the first qualifier of our £1,000 Indoor Derby, classes 60 cm – 1.0 m where once again cash is up for ‘grabs’, £50 – £200 and the handsome sum of £500 for the 1.0 m class with prizes in kind up to sixth placing in each class; second qualifier 2nd November and Final on 9th November, competitors to compete at one qualifier to be eligible for prizes in the final.
