After 14 thrilling rounds held throughout the Munster province, the 2014 Connolly’s RED MILLS Munster Grand Prix League comes to a conclusion this Sunday, as the €20,000 Banteer Gymkhana at Cork Showgrounds hosts the final leg of the series, with the league title still hanging in the balance.
A titanic battle has developed between Waterford’s Francis Connors and Tipperary’s Seamus Hayes, who between them have won 12 of the 14 rounds so far and this weekend both riders will be hoping to land that final victory which would see them lift the trophy.
Francis Connors is in pole position, holding a seven point lead over Hayes following wins at West Clare, Charleville, Newcastle West, Limerick and Dualla. However on several occasions this year just when it looked as though Connors was pulling away from his nearest rival, Seamus Hayes has hit back with several wins of his own, at Middleton, Tallow, Clonmel, Cork, Maryville and Scariff.
Realistically Seamus Hayes needs a top three finish at Banteer and he also needs Francis Connors to finish outside the points, anything less and Connors will retain the Connolly’s RED MILLS title he won in 2013.
Along with what promises to be an exciting end to the Connolly’s RED MILLS Munster Grand Prix League, Banteer Gymkhana has a packed programme of top class show jumping on offer at the excellent facilities in Cork Showgrounds, at what is one of the richest one day shows in Ireland.
Arena 1 will host the Ballymaloe Relish His & Hers finals with a whopping €2,000 on offer, while one of the highlights in arena 2 will be the final of the Munster Greyhound Night 1.10m league with another €1,500 up for grabs.
Arena 3 will host the Premier Pony Grand Prix League Finals, with no less than €4,000 spread across four top class pony competitions, while in arena 4, the Springboard Pony finals sponsored by the Munster Greyhound Funraiser, will see a further €2,000 prize fund.
The Munster Red & Blue Pony finals will take place in arena 5, with another €3,000 on offer for some of the best novice ponies currently on the circuit.
Action at this Sunday’s not to be missed Banteer Gymkhana gets underway at 9am, with the Connolly’s RED MILLS Munster Grand Prix League final starting at 2pm.
