Some 40 quality Irish-bred hunters will go under the hammer in the Hunter Show And Go Sale taking place at Scarteen Stud on Tuesday, October 7th.

Following on from the success of the first sale in 2013, this is once again being run by the Traditional Irish Horse Association.

“We are really looking forward to another great sale and have received a lot of interest from overseas,” commented Chris Ryan of the TIHA and Scarteen Stud.

Selection days will take place at Barnadown, Co Wexford on Friday, September 19, and at Scarteen in Co Limerick on Thursday, September 25.

Entry for selection days is €20, to be paid on the day. Entry for the TIHA Hunter Show and Go Sale is €50. This includes membership of the TIHA.

On the sale day horses will be asked to jump a course of fences by their vendors, and can also be tried by prospective purchasers. Any sales agreed will be between the vendors and purchasers. There will be vetting services available on site, along with representatives from transport companies.

Commenting on the sale’s objectives, Horse Sport Ireland chairman Dr Pat Wall said: “I have a busy day job so I don’t always get to ride between hunts so I need a horse that can look after me and keep me safe. I need a docile horse but also one with all the gears so that I can keep up with hounds. I bought a graduate from last year’s sale, Derwin’s Choice, a cross-country machine who has given me a great season’s hunting. I would recommend the sale to the professional and the hobby rider. Come and see the horses, you will not be disappointed.”

Rodney O’Donnell, who was among the vendors at last year’s sale, added: “TIHA provided a lovely format to showcase our traditional Irish hunter. The sale will be our target from now on following last year’s success.”
