It is hard to believe that we are already a third of the way into the show season. It only seems a few short weeks since everyone was looking forward to getting back into action in January. Twelve weeks have flown by and the climax of the winter / spring season is only two weeks away. Five lucky people will walk away from the finals with a hi-tech smart tablet, the “Smart Leagues” initiative being a huge success with large numbers attending all three leagues. With everyone enjoying the longer evenings and bright sunshine competitors thoughts are now on outdoor events. Show organisers at Ravensdale Lodge are gearing up for a busy run over the coming weeks and months. After a long, wet winter everyone at the centre is looking forward to moving to the superb outdoor facilities it has to offer from all-weather fibre sand arenas, Ireland’s two largest all-weather grass arenas and of course the onsite cross-country facilities. A mouth watering schedule of shows and events has been planned at Ravensdale Lodge which will include the usual line up of SJI registered horse & pony leagues, their tried and trusted horse & pony training leagues, arena eventing, cross-jump, dressage and bumper bank holiday shows not to mention FEHL, Eventing Ireland, RDS qualifiers and the stand out three day Longines National Grand Prix show at the end of May. With new jumps and other facilities being continually added to the centre organisers can promise the same service, quality and value as always with a few “tweaks” to keep things interesting along the way! A comprehensive schedule of forthcoming shows and events at Ravensdale Lodge will be announced in these pages soon. Meanwhile, competitions continue at the centre this week with the Crowne Plaza Dundalk SJI registered indoor horse league on Thursday from 11am. All classes are modified and run from 80cm to 1.30m, the usual 128cm, 138cm & 148cm classes run from 5pm. Indoor horse & pony training league continues on Friday from 5.30pm with classes from X poles to 1.10m and there are weekly class prizes on offer in this league courtesy of Ravensdale Lodge. Another league that enjoys weekly class prizes is the Mackins Horse Feeds indoor arena eventing league. This league has attracted large weekly numbers as new combinations realise the superb training & value this show has to offers. New fences and options have been added throughout this league and producers of young event horses have used the competition to good effect in preparation for Balmoral who are set to hold a new Young Event Horse class at their May show. There are two more weeks of this competition which coincide with the last two qualifiers for this competition and large numbers are expected to warm up in advance of qualifiers. The last weekly competition at Ravensdale Lodge is the indoor dressage league on Sunday afternoon from 2pm and there are two weeks remaining of this league. Weekly classes are on the Ravensdale Lodge website as are details of all forthcoming shows & events.
