Lennon and Kurten Score Back to Back Victories at Lanaken, Duffy Wins at Hardelot
IT was an all-Irish day at the three-star show in Lanaken, Belgium today (Friday) with back-to-back wins in the two feature classes for Ulster riders Dermott Lennon and Jessica Kurten. Antrim-born Kurten opened the door with victory in the 1m45 Two-Phase aboard the nine year-old grey gelding Contadoor, shading past Germany's Felix Hassmann and Sl Brazonado by just a quarter of a second. Capt. Michael Kelly and the Irish Sport Horse Drumiller Lough also took sixth place in the same class. Co. Down's Dermott Lennon came out with the 12 year-old bay gelding Vampire in the next competition, the 1m50 Against the Clock, and once again demolished a German challenge, seeing off Frederik Knorren and the stallion Aspen by a fifth of a second. At Hardelot in France, meanwhile, Galway's 18 year-old Michael Duffy claimed victory in the 1m40 Two Phase on Shahenaz, stopping the clock a comfortable 2.57 seconds ahead of French runner-up Timothée Anciaume and Eros. Earlier, Duffy also took a fourth place in the 1m40 speed class at three-star Hardelot on the Irish Sport Horse Touch of Chilli, with Alex Duffy coming home in sixth with Felix XXVIII. Ireland also made its presence felt at Oliva in Spain today, with Anthony Condon finishing third in the 1m45 Two Phase class, riding Hello Intertoy Z.
