Real ‘Horse Power’ at Connell Hill
The Friday night Training Show at Connell Hill saw some super rounds of jumping by ponies and horses some of which were old hands at the game and then the very novice being introduced to an indoor colourful course of fences designed to encourage forwardness with confidence. The indoor facilities with first a class surface do encourage giving this much needed confidence adding to performance of both rider and horse. The night started with the X-Poles class which saw Kimberley Cotton on ‘Dante’ and Willow Dawson on ‘Spotty Josh’ bravely go over the course claiming red rosettes. The 50 cm class saw Alison Bell on, her future star, ‘Whitefield Patricia’ and Sally Mackey on ‘Jiggy’ claim clear rounds with Sally on ‘Jiggy’ go on to claim double clear in the 60 cm class with, future young athletes as they check strides, Jamie Cotton on ‘Dante’ and Elle Nesbitt on ‘Suzie’. This very busy young jockey, Sally Mackey then took the challenge of the 70 cm class to claim yet another double clear on ‘Sugar’ with Lucy McPeake on ‘My Bubbles’, who received a huge round of applause, and Ellen Bates on ‘Elle’, Ellen then jumped another double clear on ‘Elle’ in the 80 cm class. The 1.0 m class saw ‘real horse power’ as Laura Wilson swapped the horse power of the motorbike to the horse power with four legs jumping double clear on ‘Rosie’ with Ashley Irvine on ‘Bailey’ and Seaneen McCoy on the sure footed ‘Hazel Star’.
Training Shows will continue next Friday night at 6.30 pm, X-Poles – 1.10 m classes, where everyone will receive a warm welcome with café facilities for hot and cold drinks/snacks.
£1,000 Pony Show on 23rd March at 9.30 am, classes Newcomers – 148 cm 1.25m.
SJI Horse League continues on Saturday 22nd March at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m. League dates are 8th, 22nd and 29th March, Sunday 13th, Saturday 19th April and final on 26th April. Competitors must jump at five league dates to qualify for final.
Grand Prix Horse Show on Saturday 15th March at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m, this show a date for the calendar with an excellent prize fund.
James Wray Trust Working Hunter Show on Sunday 16th March at 9.00 am.
Cash Jumping Ireland Show on Sunday 30th March at 10.00 am, classes 60 cm – 1.30 m, this show is designed for all show jumpers whatever level, providing fair competition for all. For more information on Cash Jumping or to register go to www.cashjumpingireland.com
Connell Hills’ Two Day Horse Show on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April at 10.00 am, this is a show not to be missed with a total prize fund of £2,500.
