The latest round of the Equestrian Interschools Ireland League was held on Saturday 1st March  and hosted by Kernan Equestrian Centre, Crossmaglen Co. Armagh.  James Kernan the proprietor built the courses for both the Novice and Open team and individual events.

Six teams in all competed in the day’s events. The schools taking part were:LorettoCollege,Cavan and Monaghan Girls in the Novice Team event.

NewbridgeCollege,Kildare; DundalkGrammar School; Monaghan Collegiate and Our Lady of Lourdes, New Ross competed in the Open Team Event.

The day kicked off with the Novice Team event which was won by Loreto College, Cavan. The team consisted of Sarah Reilly  on Checkpoint Fred; Nicole Kilkenny on Ninja Jinja; Orla Henry on Loughville Ranger; Amanda Collins on Ballydarren Amber Spice; Lauren Keavney on Yukon Sea Cliff.

The winner of the Novice Individual was Katie McEntee on Charlie, Sacred Heart Newry; 2nd Sarah Reilly on Checkpoint Fred, Loreto College, Cavan; 3rd Norah Fay on Mrs. Mischief , St. Aidans Cootehill; 4, Orla Henry on Loughville Ranger, Loreto College, Cavan;

In the Open Team competition, three teams qualified for the jump off against the clock.  First in for Dundalk Grammar School were Sean Bird and Tallyho Aran Boy  jumping clear in 39.44 secs, followed by Jane McLean and Little Dougie also jumping clear in a slightly slower time of 39.61 secs leaving them in 2nd place..

Next in for NewbridgeCollege, Kildare was Karen Casey and Primadonna Girl Boy who finished on a nice clear round in the fastest time of 34.10secs. She was followed by her team mate Luke Heffernan and My Rockstown Two who kept a cool head and also jumping clear in a time of 38.16secs assured Newbridge of the coveted 1st place.  Third and last to go Monaghan Collegiate’s Victoria McElwaine and Pandora D jumped clear in 42.62secs. Ciara Woods and   Inchmore Ranger were unfortunate to knock a fence which left them in 3rd place. The NewbridgeCollege team were delighted with their Kernan Equestrian rugs and rosettes.

The Open Individual competition was run as a one round speed.. The standard of jumping was high with seven combinations producing clear rounds. Eighth in, Our Lady of Lourde’s, New Ross competitor Aby Boland and Beau Spark’s fast time of 50.92 secs could not be beaten even though next in Emma McEntee and George (Sacred Heart, Newry)  tried their best but their time of 53.94 secs just wasn’t good enough giving them 2nd place. Next in Sarah Behan and Mullaballoe representing Newbridge College took 3rd place in a good toime of 56.57secs.

The final competition of the day the H S I sponsored 1.10m Premier class was run as a two phase.  Six combinations qualified for the Final. Eva Boland and Mylo 11 from Our Lady of Lourdes, New Ross gave a great display of jumping finishing on a fantastic 28.75 secs. This assured Eva of 1st place and a qualifier for the FINAL along with 2nd Emma McEntee and George (31.80secs), 3rd Emma McEntee and Hubba (32.32secs), 4th Hannah Holden and Hilltop Pearl (32.97secs), 5th Sarah Behan and Mullaballoe (35.80secs) and 6th Jane McClean and Son Concord (40.83secs).

Prizes on the day were sponsored by Kernan Equestrian Centre including  Kernan Equestrian Rugs to the winning Open team & Individual classes.
