A Captive Audience at Connell Hill’s SJI Horse Show

| March 3, 2014

connellhillAs we reach the half way mark of this SJI League at Connell Hill, competitors  arrived in their droves filling the car parks to capacity.  Full show attire adorned the riders with horses plaited and groomed to jump a course of fences designed by Mr Will Crean.  This course demanded the riders undivided attention and alertness as they navigated their magnificent steeds over the jumps.  This in turn captivated the huge audience of spectators with massive entertainment as they witnessed riders display their skills of controlled precision riding.  The show moved into full swing with the 80 cm class which saw Emma Barkley on ‘Tawnybrack Diamond’ and John McKinney on ‘Carrick Aldato Girl’ take the first double clears of the day.  The show then moved unto the 90 cm class with multiple rides some of whom were Kevin Mackey on ‘Gi Gi’ and ‘Neat Moonshadow’, Fiona Thompson on ‘O’Harabrook’ and ‘Curolea Roni’ and Philip White on ‘Culcoil’ and ‘Larredo’ all successfully jump double clear.  The arena crew quickly set the course for the 1.0 m class which saw John Reid on ‘Currabawn French Touch’, Noel McKee on ‘Keeford Athena’ and Fiona Stevenson on ‘Kellistown Blue Chip’ take the first double clears of the class.

Following on from his success with double clears in the previous class Noel McKee then took to the arena for the 1.10 m class taking glory with another double clear on ‘Keeford Sundance’.  Competitors patiently awaited the course adjustment before walking and warming up to take the challenge of 1.20 m class, this technical track saw Jordan Coyle on ‘Lakeview Charlie’, Sarah Agnew on ‘Galwaybay Hummer’. Robert Newell on ‘RNH Boudiccea’ and Rebecca Patterson on ‘Knockroe Decies Girl’ triumphantly jump double clear rounds.  The last class of the day, the very nail biting, 1.30 m class saw Suzanne Posnett, expertly ride to take the honours of first place on ‘Cocos Mademoiselle’.
