Route Hunt Meet at The Cam Limivady
On Saturday 8th February Route hunt members met at the Cam Limavady the home of the McCloskey family. On arrival all appreciated the hot refreshments that were provided. By 12.20pm all were ready and the hunt set off for the first jumps set up around the McCloskey’s farm which included trees, telegraph poles and tyres. It was then a hack along the Cam road to the quarry where there were streams, ditches, tyres, pipes and poles to jump. This then lead to the forest where all were able to have a good canter. The surprise of the day was a fallen tree in the forest path which wasn’t there the day before. Unfased by this hunt organiser Gerard McCloskey cleared the obstacle and was followed by 5 more riders. The rest took the easier option and went around.
Leaving the forest there was another ditch and a stream to cross before descending the hill onto the Broad road. Crossing the road the hunt descended into the valley for a few more jumps. The final canter of the day was along the pipe line path to a pallet fence which was the last fence of the day. It was then a hack along the forest path onto the Broad road before returning back to the McCloskeys where all enjoyed soup, sandwiches and pastries.
Thanks goes to Gerard McCloskey for setting up the hunt and to the McCloskey family for their hospitality. Thanks also goes to the other farmers and landowners who gave the hunt the use of their land for the day.
