The continued run of poor weather did not impact on the diehard riders that took full advantage of the indoor arenas at Ravensdale Lodge once again this week. While the wind and rain tried to put a dampener on everyone’s enjoyment it did not succeed as the numbers increased at the popular north Louth venue for the third week in a row. Weary of the constant floods and the fact that they could not get out to exercise animals at home, competitors voted with their feet and headed to the comfort on Ravensdale Lodge’s two indoor arenas. Thursday saw week one of the Crowne Plaza SJI registered indoor horse league and this run of shows continues every Thursday to 24th April from 11am. There are 6 modified classes from 80cm (M) to 1.30m (M) and many combinations will be availing of this show in the coming weeks to prepare for the O’ Reillys Wholesalers Newry Spring Tour which is scheduled for Sunday 2nd March. “Smart Leagues” leader board. Indoor horse & pony training shows continue every Friday until 25th April with classes from X poles to 1.10m and a start time of 5.30pm. Saturday’s Mackins Horse Feeds indoor arena eventing league saw another bumper turnout in all three classes. This competition has deservedly taken off over the past three weeks as producers of young horses and competitors alike see it as a great opportunity to school animals over a diverse range of professionally made portable cross country fences and show jumps. Likewise it appeals equally to arena eventers, working hunters and derby specialists. There is a week’s break from indoor arena eventing this week but competition resumes on Saturday 22nd February and continues uninterrupted until Saturday 26th April with the 70cm class commencing at 2pm, the 85cm class at 3pm & the 1m class at 4pm. Indoor dressage continues next Sunday (16th February) to Sunday 27th April with a start time of 2pm, all weekly classes can be found on the Ravensdale Lodge website. We may not be able to depend much on the weather in this country however one thing competitors can depend on is that they will be comfortably high & dry competing on top class surfaces at Ravensdale Lodge.
