Arena Eventing at Strule Valley
STRULE VALLEY RIDING CLUB in Omagh, Co Tyrone held something different recently in the form of an ‘Arena Eventing Competition’ at Ecclesville, Fintona on a beautiful sunny, dry day! This consisted of 7 showjumps followed by 7 working hunter/cross country type fences which proved a challenge from the normal showjumping course; but was enjoyed by everyone taking up the challenge!

Thanks to Raymond Caldwell for building his usual encouraging course to produce clear rounds & encourage both horse & rider & to Alan Gilchrist for assisting. Thanks to Chris Bogle for doing his usual efficient job of judging, Jane Huey for taking the entries, Poppy Blakiston-Houston call up, AJS Catering & Pearl Donnell & for anyone else who helped in any way at all. Thanks also to the competitors for their support & well done to those who jumped double clear & to the lucky ones who drew 1st place in each class for a bag of horse & pony nuts/mix!
The Club would also like to thank Howard Brown & his son Richard from Artemis Photography for coming along & taking photographs of the competitors in each class which can be purchased online from Artemis Photography.
Smokey & Joan Maxwell had a successful day jumping double clear in both the 80cm & 90cm classes & Holy Joe SDS & Nadine Arthur jumped clear all the way in the 90cm, 1 metre & 1’10 classes taking home their share of red rosettes!

Members continue their showjumping training this month with William Anderson at Ecclesville & finishing touches are being put to the spring schedule before it is with members!
The Club’s next competition is the 16th Annual Combined Training Competition which is planned for Saturday 9th March at the RDA, Arvalee, Omagh. Further details soon. The annual charity pleasure ride is planned for Monday 1st April at Baronscourt & money from this will go to ‘The Share Centre, Lisnaskea. A working hunter competition is planned for Saturday 11th May at Ecclesville, Fintona & again further details later.
