Connell Hill’s Festive Christmas Derby Show Challenge

| December 30, 2013

connellhillThe cold hard frost arrived on Sunday morning following the previous stormy winds as competitors arrived to jump a challenging course as they took a break from the festivities of partying, turkey and mulled wine.  This was a most competitive day enjoyed by all as spectators viewed some super jumping from the viewing gallery as they ate mince pies and irish stew.

Combinations of rider and horse all turned out in show attire to take the Derby challenge which commenced with the 60 cm class with Niamh Baker on ‘Clyde’ taking the first clear of the day to win the red rosette, closely followed by Naomi McCavana on ‘Molly’ picking up second and Susan Sloan on ‘Tamni Blue’ taking third placing.  It was all in the stars as the 70 cm class got under way with Sarah Thompson shooting into first place on ‘Zodiac’, jumping into second place was Alison Smith on ‘Jumping Dale Viola’ and picking up a very deservedly third place Jodie Creighton on ‘Tabby’.  Dreams came true as the 80 cm class got under way with technical twists and turns for the jump off which saw Hannah Catterall on ‘Holly Dream Flight’ take it all in her stride winning first place with Erin Dunseath as she expertly jumped her super wee horse ‘Malibu’ into second place with Sarah Thompson picking up third place on ‘Zodiac’.  The 90 cm class proved more technical as the fences were raised but this was no obstacle as Orla McLaughlin on ‘ Diamond Lad’ took the honours of first place with Brigid Delargy on ‘ J LO’ picking up second, John Kilgore on ‘Polly’ picked up third and =4th went to Keavy Molloy on ‘Diamond Seeker’ and Debbie McLean on ‘Chance’.  The last red rosette of the day for the 1.0 m class went to Mary Hegarty on ‘Iky’, with an undoutblty second placing going to Gary Leathan on ‘Troy’, with his unusual facial marking, and taking third place Keavy Molloy on ‘Diamond Seeker’.

Connell Hill would like to thank everyone for their continued support and wish everyone a Happy Prosperous New Year.
