A ‘GRAND’ Indoor Derby at Connell Hill

| November 4, 2013

Sunday saw a ‘grand’ day for the final of the Indoor Derby Show at Connell Hill which was sponsored by Judy Maxwell, Baileys Horse Feeds and Trevor McClelland, Doagh Farm Feeds. Following the torrential rain fall the previous day riders appreciated the sun pocketed dry day adding to this already fun filled exciting show. The course, a combination of show jumping, working hunter, portable cross country, and special effect fences had competitors buzzing rearing to go as they warmed up in the outdoor arena preparing for the challenge.

The 60 cm class started the day with some super jumping with young horses taking it all in their stride which was won by Jodie Creighton on ‘Reilly’ with Lucy Hanna on ‘Grennstown Cougar’ taking second place. The fences went up for the 70 cm class and competitors took the challenge but there was no stopping Dee Harris on ‘Jamesmore Crackerjack’ as they cut corners speeding home in first place. With the car parks filling up, the 80 cm class took off with riders and horses giving it their all making for some most nerve wracking moments, but the royalties of this class were awarded to Ashley Byrne on ‘Prince’. With spectators hoarse filling the stadium with cheering and numb hands from applauding as competitors made their way over the courses, the 90 cm class began with riders seeking out speedy manoeuvres to take seconds of the clock with Keevy Molloy on ‘Diamond Seeker’ jumping clear in a very fast time taking a most honourable first place. The very much awaited 1.0 m class which demanded controlled skilful riding demonstrating both the rider and horses ability to take the challenge once again had everyone on the edge but calmly ridden and modestly taking glory was Emma Jackson on ‘Amy’ with Jenny McBride on ‘Megan Clover Mist’ picking up second place and Nicole Barr on ‘Florida Day Dream’ taking third.

Connell Hill would like to thank sponsors Judy Maxwell, Baileys Horse Feeds and Trevor McClelland, Doagh Farm Feeds, Course Designers, Arena Crew, Time Keeper Mr Paul Johnston, staff and the Hamilton Family, Broughshane for donating special effect fences and most of all the Competitors, horses and grooms making this a most exciting show. We hope everyone enjoyed the experience seeing you all back in the very near future.
