Higgins Scoops 1.20m Class at Connell Hill’s SJI Horse League
As Connell Hill reached a half way mark for the SJI Horse League, a large number of competitors joined to compete over a technical course, testing both horse and rider ability.
The sun shone for the most part of the day with riders warming up in short sleeves enjoying this most unusual ‘continental’ weather. The day commenced with the 80 cm class, which saw double clears from Emma Barkley on ‘Tawnybrack Diamond’, Ian Moore on ‘Femme Fatale’ and Caroline Taylor on ‘Taylors Girl’, thus setting the trend for the day ahead as these competitors went on to jump double clears in the 90 cm class.
Multiple rides was the order of the day for the 1.0 m class with Sarah Kelly on ‘Windyhill Clover Queen’ and ‘Monkey Star’ amongst the double clear rounds. Courtney Ferris on ‘Kylemore Vicki’ sped past the finish in first place with June Burgess on ‘Obas Apollo’ close on her heals picking up a very deservedly second place in the 1.10 m class.
It was a nail biting 1.20 m class but a calmly professionally ridden round earned John Higgins, from Magherafelt, first place on ‘Doonaveeragh Camiro’ and a fourth on ‘KEC Freefalling’, and to end the days jumping Kevin Mackey on ‘Cruising Lux’ picked up first place in the 1.30 m class.
Autumn SJI Horse League continues on 26th October, 2nd, 9th, 16th 23rd and Final on 30th November at 10.00 am, 80 cm – 1.30 m classes.
Autumn SJI Pony League 24th November, 1st December and Final 21st December at 10.00 am all usual classes.
Training Show for Horses and Ponies continue on Friday nights, at 6.30 pm, 50 cm – 1.10 m classes.
£1,000 Indoor Derby League Final on Sunday 3rd November at 10.00 am, classes 60 cm – 1.0 m. £50 – £500 + rugs to the winners of each class with prizes in kind up to 6th placings. Competitors must have competed at 1 league date to be eligible for prizes in final.
3 & 4 Year Old Pony Loose Jumping on Tuesdays 5th, 12th and 19th November at 7.00 pm
