Connell Hill’s £1k Derby is ‘Lachain Easy’ for Gemma
Saturday saw competitors take the last opportunity to qualify for Connell Hills’ £1,000 Derby League which was a most competitive day enjoyed by all as this show was held in the very spacious new outdoor arena. Competitors jumped an extensive course of show jumping, working hunter and portable fences which horses and riders executed with absolute precision. The day commenced with the 60 cm class which saw Chloe Connon on ‘Moves Like Jagger’ picking up 1st place, Jodie Creighton on ‘Cocky’ 2nd Alanna Dunlop, on her new horse, ‘Gem’ taking 3rd and Chloe also taking home 4th place on ‘Blondie’. The 70 cm class saw a large number of riders jump clear to go forward to the jump off with Brittany McAfee on ‘Tessamara’ very speedily win 1st place and hot on her heals was Beth Boone on ‘Angel’ in 2nd place. As the 80 cm class filled up so did the car parks with horses and riders oozing enthusiasm to jump this course with Chloe Wright on ‘Flash’ taking the honours of 1st place and Dylan Kelso on ‘Roxy’ 2nd, both these young riders travelled from Cookstown. Then came the 90 cm class which saw horses jumping to a very high standard with 1st placing duly awarded to Lucy Mulligan on ‘Frank’ and Julie McLernon on ‘Ronnie’ taking 2nd place. The last class of the day was the 1.0 m class and with a large number of entrants not only were the fences high but also the competition with Gemma Goodrich on ‘Lachain Easy’ storming home in 1st place.
