Northern Ireland Indoor Amateur Show Success
The Northern Ireland Indoor Amateur 2-Day show was held at Kernans Equestrian Centre Crossmaglen by kind permission of the Kernan Family.
National Course builder Alistair Megahey set the test for the classes over the weekends jumping, starting on Friday evening 20th September with a warm up class. Judges Mary Mahon and Noeleen Jones kept a sharp eye on the arena their finger on the bell.
The First class held on Saturday was the ‘One Round Speed’ and 1st place went to Kathryn King on board Skewberry with a time of 65.98, 2nd place went to Johnnie Fitzpatrick on board his own Saunders Beach Ball Cruise and joining him in the line-up in 3rd place was his wife Clodagh Fitzpatrick on board CTS Honey Bee.
4th place Laura Glendinning on board Tirconaill Well Dun,
5th place Ian Moore on board Triple C
6th place to popular local Cross rider Roisin Hughes on board her young 5yr old Park Display.
The Second Class was the ‘Power & Speed’, 1st place was Karen Pearson (known as KP to some) on board Quantum Classic stopping the clock at 33.08.
2nd place and very close time of 34.70 went to Jane Kealey on board her own Crossmaglen Bandit (bred by local man Joe Hughes).
The next placings were extremely close and exciting to watch as Catherine Chambers onboard Elysium Imp took 3rd place with a time of 35.29 seconds, followed by Stephanie Rankin onboard Tease Me Tiger with 35.69 seconds into 4th place. Ruth O’Brien onboard Shantards-Girl was not far behind with 35.97 seconds into 5th place while Martin Wilson onboard Hermes Diamond took 6th place with a time of 35.87.
The Third Class was our NI Indoor Amateur Mini Grand Prix, the winner presented with the ‘Frank Kernan Memorial Trophy’ by his daughter Ellen Kernan. It was close for 1st place between Joanna Curran and Kathryn King but it was Johanna Curran onboard Kilbrickan at a time of 40.08 seconds that earned her 1st place, Kathryn King onboard Skewberry in 40.90 seconds took 2nd place and 3rd place partnered up with her 2nd horse Roc 1 Recludon, accumulating points towards the Leading Rider of the show.
4th place Jane Allen onboard with Cavalier Andy.
5th place went to Alexandra Robinson partnered with her 5yr old Callie lvs Z
6th place Alistair Wilson onboard Fathers Footsteps
The New Novelty Class caused quite a lot of excitement ‘The Wheel Borrow Egg & Spoon Race’ two legged race involving 10 teams. Congratulations goes to David Darragh & Helena Walshe for their spoon skill and the fastest two legs at the show by far.
Starting Sunday with the Jump Off Class 1st place when to Caroline Black teamed up with Rathfriland Star in 42.68 seconds, 2nd Joanna Curran onboard her young 5yr old BallyTrodden Minnie Me in 43.89 seconds. 3rd place was Deirdre McDonald in 42.84 seconds. 4th place was Kathryn King onboard Roc Tredludon with 47.81 followed by Martin Wilson partnered with Hermies Diamond in 56.07 seconds. 6th place Vanessa McDonald onboard Vanessas Pride in 58.37 seconds.
Our final competition of the show the NI Indoor Amateur Grand Prix where the Maggie Murphy Memorial Trophy goes to the winner presented by daughter Roisin Hughes, there were up to 40 entries, so it wasn’t going to be easily won. National Course Builder Alistair Magahey put together a challenging first round followed by a tricky jump-off track for the 19 who qualified a mix of A and AA riders.
Fault free Martin Wilson onboard Hermes Diamond proved to be a popular winner with a time of 31.66 not to be caught. 2nd place was Denise Predergast in 33.99 seconds, 3rd place went to stylish rider Sheikh Samir Mirdad onboard his own Uraeus with a superb round in 34.07 seconds. Well deserved 4th place went to Charles O’Hanlon in a time of 34.58 seconds. 5th place went to Heika Tracy with a faultless 44.76 seconds, (great to see Heika back after her baby). 6th place was taken by Karen Pearson on her reliable Quantum Classic in a time of 31.06.
‘Leading Rider’ went to Kathryn King, what a way to kick off her first Amateur Show. Kathryn came up triumphs with super riding accumulating the most points overall to earn the title ‘Leading Rider’ winning the prize for ‘Free SJAI Membership for 2014’ kindly sponsored by Kernans Equestrian.
