The jumping action continued at Kernan Equestrian Centre on Northern Bank Holiday Monday 26th August.. They ran one of their popular Mini Grand Prix Horse Shows in welcome sunshine. All competitions were run as two phase except the Mini Grand Prix jump off event.
The first event of the day the 90cm class got off to a good start with regular here Joe Hughes on his new horse Cet Na Bracken taking 1st place.
In the 1m class first prize went to another regular Niamh Donelly on her own Lynderry Action Girl. Caitriona Cody on Linesto was 2nd and local girl Deidre Vallely took 3rd place on Flagstff Dream. . The competition started to hot up in the 1.10m class with Sarah Kilpatrick’s time of 35.21secs on Georgie’s Star giving her the red rosette. Joanne Evans on Princess Cyrano finished in second place in 37.36secs and Tara Dunne on Mouse C was third in 39.78 secs. The 1.20m class was a case of déjà vu with James Hogg and Indicator repeating their Ulster Region 1.20m League success here a couple of weeks ago taking 1st prize in 29.52secs. Sarah Kilpatrick, also a regular winner here was 2nd this time on Russian Gold finishing in a time of 32.90secs. 3rd and 4th places went to Barbara Allen on Judy Murphy’s Javas Keltic Dawn (33.29secs) and Javas Keltic Summer (33.34secs) respectively.
The eagerly awaited main event of the day, the Kernan Equestrian Centre sponsored 1.30m Grand Prix kicked off with Ryan O’Neill on Roisin Hughes’s Roxborough Jimmy Choo producing the first of six clear rounds. This combination ended up in 4th place in the jump off. Second to go in the jump off Michael Beattie on Downtown Lady gave a good display but his time of 40.57 secs was immediately bettered by Charlene Clinghan on Square One . Charlene’s fast time of 38.84 secs could not be beaten even though James Hogg on Always On My Mind tried his best but his time of 40.40 secs was good enough for 2nd place. 5th went to young rider Connor McEneaney on Moonlite Cavalier and 6th to Liam McGarry on Javas Wild Child another of Judy Murphy’s string of Javas horses. Charlene and Square One wre popular winners and received their rosette and KEC rug from proprietor James Kernan.
Course designer Alistair Megahey’s strong but challenging courses produced good results. The fine weather added to the relaxed atmosphere on the day and Kernan Equestrian Centre wish to extend their thanks to all those who supported them.
