Ulster Region Grand Prix Horse Show at Connell Hill

| August 26, 2013

Connell Hill Equestrian CentreConnell Hill hosted the Ulster Region Grand Prix Horse Show on Saturday and what a show this was, competitors travelled from all arts and parts with horse boxes and horse lorries packing the spacious yards and lane-way to absolute capacity.

This friendly, relaxed, safety conscious Centre saw a huge entry of competitors enjoy a fabulous day jumping courses set and designed to not only test the horse and riders skills and ability but also the nerves of spectators as they watched from the jam packed viewing gallery these incredible breath-taking rounds.

The first class of the day, the 90 cm class, set the standard for the day which saw some superb rounds, double clears with multiple rides in the 1.0 m class were Noel McKee on ‘Keeford Sundance’ and ‘Keeford Athena’, Connor Stewart on ‘Rubellious’ and ‘Achilea’ and Judith Sossick on ‘Loughview La La’ and ‘Loughview Diamond Clover’.  This show kindly sponsored by ‘Arthur McEvoy Shavings’, Banbridge, who supplies wood shavings and sawdust kiln-dried in bales or bulk which can be delivered (028) 4062 5568, 07774 114262, certainly attracted talented competitors determined to win as the competition was increasing with each class.  Making it look easy in the 1.10 m class was Catherine Thornton on ‘Galway Bay Easy Touch’ as they flew past the clock taking a triumphant first place and also fourth on ‘Annaghmore Listina’, with John Jordan on ‘Majestic Diamond’ second and Suzanne Posnett on ‘Karmijn’ third.

Then came a very nail biting 1.20 class as competitors took to the arena each trying to beat the clock which saw John Jordan on ‘Figaro VD Heffisick’ winning in record time with Edward Little on ‘Liro 6’ picking up second and Liam McKee on ‘Shanemullagh Lady’ third.  Lastly, and not for the faint hearted, was the Grand Prix 1.30 m class a highly demanding course testing everyones nerve which saw Daniel Coyle on Linzi Johnstons’ ‘Uptown Girl’ take the honour of first place and right on his heals Suzanne Posnett on ‘Maxim Van Overis’.

A huge thank you to Arthur McEvoy Shavings for sponsorship, Course Designer Nigel Jess, Judges, Paul Johnston, David Green, Janet and Lithgow Currie, all those who helped and also the competitors and grooms, for the behind scenes of hard work, making this a most enjoyable day, hope to see everyone in the near future during the next scheduled shows.
