Euro Day at Connell Hill
The first day of the new SJI Horse League at Connell Hill saw a large number of competitors attend but as the day got warmer the horses felt the heat of warming up outdoors and welcomed the cooler climate of the indoor arena where a comprehensive course of fences awaited.
With all horses and riders well turned out the spectators saw some super rounds of jumping. The 90 cm class saw local girl Shannon McKenzie on ‘Euroquay’, a young stallion, jump an excellent double clear as did Ian Moore on ‘Sarko’. As the 1.0 m class got under way the heat did not affect Tara O’Connell, another local girl, on ‘Graf Pepsi Max’ and Mary Hegarty on ‘Tiny Tess’ as they jumped double clears.
Once again the 1.10 m class saw Julie Steele on ‘Wellview Lenny’ take first place but following an injury it was good to see not only back in the saddle but also in the placings Stephen Grieve on ‘Zaza B’ as they picked up second place.
SJI Horse League continues on Thursday 13th, 20th, 27th June, 4th, 11th, 18th July, final on Thursday 25th July, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m, starting at 10.00 am.
