Finals Approach for SJI Spring Leagues at Connell Hill
Connell Hill saw a large number of competitors turn out to jump in the penultimate leg of the SJI Spring Horse and Pony leagues. It was good to see the various combinations progress through the league and enjoy jumping courses where stride and balance are of the utmost importance. The use of times in the second phase from 1.10 m – 1.20 m classes has offered everyone the opportunity to develop the less experienced combinations in time for the outdoor shows. When it came to the second phase of the 1.10 m the atmosphere changed as the excitement from the spectators increased encouraging the riders along. The clocks started and there was nothing shy about Alison McClean on ‘Shilow Natal’ as they took first place with Christopher Adger on ‘Limmerick Sparkle’ picking up second place. Celebrations erupted when Erin Faloona on ‘Orchard Echo’ had the fastest time taking first place in the 1.20 m class and winning the 1.30 m class was Laura Brown on ‘Pico Bellos Stal Ham’.
Sunday morning kicked into life for the SJI Spring Pony League when the Under 10’s class took off as all competitors went through to the jump off. These young athletes gave it their all as they raced against the clock with each competitor taking seconds off the previous time. But no one could catch Yiayan Evans on ‘Princess Judy’ as they sped into first place, just slipping into second place was Ellie-Rose Cassidy on ‘Tuity Fruity’ and Anabelle Heffron on ‘Miss Elegant’ taking third place. Making her debut at Connell Hill was Eve Donnelly on ‘Lakeside Diamond’ as she jumped a double clear at her first registered show getting her show jumping career off to a good start.
