‘High light’ jumping at Connell Hill’s SJI Autumn Horse League
Sunday, 18th October, was the ‘high light’ to a tremendous weekend of shows and jumping at Connell Hill Equestrian Centre. Competitors thoroughly enjoyed the friendly, relaxed and safety conscious atmosphere jumping professionally designed tracks by Course Designer Nigel Jess. Judge, David Greene, welcomed riders and invited them to walk the tracks and prepare to jump their challenges. Kathryn Parker, from Lisburn, oozed success claiming double clears in both the 90 cm and 1.0 classes on her own mare ‘Tullymurry High Light’. It was ladies celebrating the 90 cm Bluegrass Diamond Challenge as Joanne Nevin, from Coleraine on her own gelding ‘Curraghavarna Bud’, Jane Kealey, from Limavady, on her gelding ‘Cruising On Red’and Elizabeth Magee, from Castlerock, on her mare ‘Kinsale Breeze’ claimed equal first. The Bluegrass Diamond Challenge then saw Newtownards riders take the honours as Helen Pearson-Murray scooped first place on her mare ‘Cyrano Buttercup’ Russell Alexander claim second on his mare ‘Miss Match’. Helen and ‘Cyrano Buttercup’ then scooped another first place in the 1.10 m Bluegrass Diamond Challenge with Karen Pearson, from Cookstown jumping into second place on her own mare ‘Quantum Classic’. The 1.10 m Autumn League saw Sarah Burns, from Banbridge, claim double clears on her own mare ‘Foxy Finn’ and, Pat McCartans’ mare ‘Charity (AESB). Kevin Mackey, from Dungiven, controlled the 1.20 m challenges winning the Bluegrass Diamond Challenge on Helena O’Kanes’ mare ‘Legavllons Moonshine’ and jumping double clear in the Autumn League on, Henry Callaghans gelding ‘Visible C’. And so with the clocks well warmed up the 1.30 m class got under way with John Higgins, from Magherafelt, take the poll position on his gelding ‘Sansibar’, Kevin Mackey take a most honourable second on Henry Callaghans ‘Visible C’ and Philip Gaw stand third on Derek Gaws mare ‘Ardnacashel Coovella’.
This SJI Autumn League will continue next Saturday 24t October at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m. Competitors to jump at four league dates to qualify for the final on 21st November.
