| October 15, 2015

connellhillAs we progress into Autumn, and the fourth leg of the SJI Autumn Horse League, competitors are still enjoying the experience of jumping outstanding tracks in Connell Hills fabulous outdoor arena.  Here riders not only enjoy the sure-footedness of the highly maintained surface but also the friendly relaxed atmosphere putting both horse and rider at ease gaining maximum performance.  Course Designer, Colm Quinn, had the track set ready and awaiting the first competitors of the day to which Judge, Janet Liggitt, commenced the show with Solveig Simms, from Crumlin, on her own mare, ‘Silken Aura’ claiming the first double clear of the day in the 80 cm class.  Laura Ervine, from Newtownabbey, then set the standard for the 90 cm class opening with a superb double clear on her own mare ‘White Hawk Shakara’.  Competitors patiently awaiting the go ahead to walk the 1.0 m class which saw a high standard of horsemanship skills with Lucy Buchanan, from Scarva, jumping the first double clear on Linda Courtneys’ mare ‘LCC Drumiller Arko’ and close the class with a double clear on her own gelding ‘Mermus Kandy’.  With the final adjustments made for the 1.10 m challenge Clare Spillane-Pattison, from Tobermore, triumphed jumping the first double clear on Ann Spillanes mare ‘Cor De La’.  The 1.20 m class was certainly very successful for Paul Tang, from Magherafelt, when he jumped double clear on both ‘Neat Kaiser’ and ‘Neat Moonshadow’ owned by Nicola Tang.   And so then  with the clocks programmed and ready for go the 1.30 m competition commenced which saw David Taylor accelerate and hit the maximum goal of first place jumping double clear to win on Carla Overends’ gelding ‘CJO Max A Million’ with Suzanne Possnet picking up a very close second on Beth Armstrongs’ gelding ‘Orchard Echo’ and Michael Cave stand third on Marian Caves’ gelding ‘Ballybean’.  Thanks to the Judge of the day, Janet Liggett, Course Designer, Colm Quinn, and staff for making this a most successful enjoyable day.
