In conjunction with the SEA, The Pony Club is encouraging its Members and volunteers to use their artistic skills to depict a favourite memory from their Pony Club experiences, and win the chance to have their artwork displayed as a part of the SEA exhibition in London in September.

Works should be a depiction of a memory or memorable experience for a Member or volunteer (maybe a Pony Club activity or occasion) expressed through a painting, drawing or *digitally produced artwork.

There are three categories for entrants;

  • Ages 11 and under
  • Ages 12-16
  • Ages 17 and over (including **volunteers)

For both ease and so the artwork can be enjoyed by as many as possible, entrants are invited to submit their artwork electronically via the online portal atmemories.pcuk.org, until July 1st when entries will close. The entries will then be judged on a regional level for each of The Pony Club Areas, by a panel made up of both Pony Club and SEA representatives. Those who are winners at regional level will receive a prize, and will then be required to frame their work so it can be displayed in The Pony Club Championship hospitality area, at Cholmondeley Castle during August 16-19th 2013, for a final judging; those successful at the final judging in each category will go forward to the SEA exhibition in London!

Judy Boyt, now a famous equestrian sculptor, member of the SEA and creator of the Mitsubishi Badminton Horse Trials silver trophy took part in the first Pony Club art competition in 1966. “I painted a picture of mares and foals after I had been watching and drawing them at a family friend’s stud” recalls Judy, “my mother entered it into the Pony Club art competition and I won the under 12 category! Recently, I was returned the original picture from my late mother’s estate, it is now hanging on my wall at home, and it’s not too bad a picture!”

“It is hoped that entries will depict a huge variety of the fantastic and varied experiences that Pony Club Members (past and present) have enjoyed, and encourage others to join in” comments Clare Walkeden who is coordinating the competition at The Pony Club. “So often we hear people say ‘Oh, I remember my Pony Club days, and my first Camp etc’ so it will be lovely to be able to see those memories come to live to share them online”.

Entries are open now at memories.pcuk.org, where full rules and further advice for the competition can also be found.
