Coyle Claims Cork Summer Show TRM/Horseware Premier Series Grand Prix
Daniel Coyle continued on his upward spiral yesterday as he landed yet another win in the TRM/Horseware Premier Series Grand Prix at last weekend’s Cork Summer Show. Riding John Carr’s 11-year-old Guidam sired stallion, Zuidam took home the winner’s share of the €10,000 on offer in the Munster Agricultural Society sponsored class.
This is the second Premier Series win of late for the pairing having claimed victory in Omagh and as a result now sit on the top end of the Premier Series leaderboard.
Coyle said; “It was great to have another win at this level in just a few weeks. To be honest I wasn’t thinking about the league standings but the win on the day. The Premier’s are always very competitive and always up to standard so they aren’t’ easy to win. Alexander Butler and John McLaughlin had set very good times, so I just kept the pace up. I think I really made up the time in the turn back to the penultimate fence. I am looking ahead now to Balmoral and hopefully it will go my way there”.
On duty, Klaus Holle built a fair track for the 36 listed starters and with a very high standard of combinations, 14 of these proceeded to the second round.
Speed merchant against the clock, Alexander Butler set the time to beat with a clear in 41.61 seconds with Hallowberry Cruis.
Despite Butler’s good pace, his target held only temporarily as John McLaughlin and Javas Wild Child kept the rails intact in 40.34 seconds to take the lead.
Placed second in Omagh, Vincent Byrne was up for the challenge as he took it on with Caugherty, coming home clear in 42.33, saw him slot into fourth place.
Seventh to go in the jump-off, Daniel Coyle knew what was required and with a win in mind he galloped home with nothing to add in 37.98 to take the lead, leaving McLaughlin to take runner up spot and Butler third.
Also chasing valuable points, Kildare native Edward Doyle didn’t hang about as he lodged a clear in 44.20 seconds with Mullaghdrin Touch The Stars for fifth place.
Little separated the next placing as Neal Fearon and Cessina 4 put in a faultless round in 44.26 for sixth place.
