‘Flash’ Got It ‘Wright’ at Connell Hill’s Summer Derby Show

| July 16, 2015

connellhillIt was Sunday 5th July and that meant ‘Summer Derby Show’ day at Connell Hill and what a day this was as competitors were welcomed to take the challenge of jumping tracks which were a combination of show jumping, working hunter and portable cross country fences ranging from 60 cm – 1.0 m.  These artistically displayed tracks, in the expansive outdoor arena, demanded skilful riding to negotiate turns in a bid to take seconds of the clock.  As the sun shone throughout the day family, friends and spectators witnessed some amazing ability and style making this a most competitive fun day enjoyed by everyone.  With sponsorship from ‘Mother Bee’, supplier of naturally made ointments for you and your horse, 07764576531 and ‘Brookevale Tack Shop’, supplier of feed, tack, anything your horse needs and clothing for you, 07933655191 / 07808888171, competitors set their sat navs and took off jumping their challenges all hoping to be in the line up to receive one of the great prizes making this one roller coaster day.  Local girl Chloe Connon took the first placing of the day winning the 60 cm class on ‘Hip Hop’ with Kim Moore nipping into second place on ‘Apple Jack’.  These young ladies certainly set the standard for the day with excitement growing as the 70 cm class got under way and Jodie Creighton who is no stranger to competition took this challenge all in her stride to take the honours of first on ‘Lady Chatterbox’ with Ryan Stewart picking up a very well deserved second on ‘Mindy’.  The sensational nail biting 80 cm class saw riders make split second decisions on nippy turns in a bid to take seconds off the clock which saw Chloe Wright on the sure footed ‘Flash’ proudly take poll position with William Hamilton picking up second on ‘Jaunty’ and Cherie McHugh taking third on ‘Morgan’.  It was then time for the 90 cm class and again this testing track saw huge competition which saw Annie Courtney-Cadam stylishly zoom over fences to take the no.1 position on ‘LCC Clover Lily’, Ian Moore picking up second on ‘Triple C’ and Alex Finney stand third on ‘Rodger’.  The final class, the 1.0 m, once again saw, with perfect timed strides, Annie Courtney-Cadam stand in first position on ‘LCC Some Man For One Man’, Helen Pearson-Murray take second on ‘I Ain’t No Lady’, Sarah Sproule third on ‘River Diamond Rebel’ and Nina Mulligan fourth on ‘Susie’.  Well done to everyone.

Connell Hill would like to take this opportunity and thank sponsors ‘Mother Bee’ and Brookevale Tack Shop, judges, arena crew, staff and of course you the competitors, not forgetting your grooms, without whom the show would not have been the enjoyable successful day it was and hope to see you all back in the not too distant future.
