Crown Reigns at Connell Hills SJI Summer Horse League
It was Thursday and what a day of fabulous Mediterranean weather and to cap it all it was Show Jumping at Connell Hill. This was the second leg of the Summer SJI Horse League, where competitors are required to jump at four legs to qualify for the final on Thursday 31 July. Judge, David Greene granted riders permission to ditch their show jackets and jump tracks, designed by Nigel Jess, in their show shirts soaking up the rays. With the sun already shinning the early birds mounted eager to get going before the mid day heat and so the 80 cm class shot into action with the first double clear rounds of the day picked up by Caroline Taylor on her own ‘ Taylors Girl’ and Christopher Adjer on his own ‘Chicago Blues’. The course then set for the 90 cm class with some superb rounds of jumping saw Laura Crown, on top form, reign closing the class with a very stylish double clear on her own ‘Miss Lady Lux’. This day was really heating up in more ways than one as the 1.0 m class got under way with Chelsea Robinson jumping the first double clear on, Lorna Robinsons’, ‘Templehill Ludo W Lady’ and then go forward repeating her success amidst the large number of competitors in the 1.10 m class. Nigel and the arena crew then set the track for the 1.20 m class which required finely tuned riding skills with Kevin Mackey opening the class with a double clear on, Leanne Marshalls’, ‘GHS Little Moments’ and then closed the class with a double clear on, Richard Hughes, ‘Some Night’. One lady who without doubt enjoys the thrill of picking up points through speed is Suzanne Posnett as she won the 1.30 m class on, Beth Armstrongs’, ‘Orchard Echo’ to end this amazing day of show jumping.
