Can’t Blame the ‘Moonshine’
The brighter weather, which was long overdue, put a spring in everyone’s step at Connell Hill. The horses were in top form as they jumped at the ninth week of the SJI Spring Horse League at Connell Hill. Competitors all welcomed the opportunity to shed their water-proofs and warm up in the sunshine before jumping a superb course of fences.
Clare Spillane-Pattison, Fiona Thompson, Brian Smyth, Ian Moore and John McKinney all arrived with multiple rides. Clare Spillane-Pattison on ‘Cor De La’ and Fiona Thompson on ‘Curolea Roni’ and ‘Curloea Mika’ all had double clears in the 80 cm class with Fiona Thompson on ‘Curloea Mika’ and Clare Spillane-Pattison on ‘Little Task’ going on to have double clears in the 90 cm class as did Brian Smyth on ‘Its All About Blue’. Stephanie Doherty on her super horse ‘Beechmount Champ’ also had double clears in the 80 and 90 cm classes.
The 1.0 m class saw Paul Humphries on ‘Direct Route’ go double clear and then go on to have a double clear in the 1.10 m class. Gareth Saunderson on ‘Concerto Thornesele Z’ had their own Grand National day as they went double clear in their first 1.20 m class and as it came to the last class of the day, the 1.30 m class who can blame the moonshine as Kevin Mackey on ‘Legavallons Moonshine’ jumped their way to victory.
The SJI Spring Horse League continues next Saturday, 13th April, at 10.00 am classes 80 cm – 1.30 m.
At the final of the SJI Horse League on Saturday 27th April Junior and Young Riders will be incorporated into the 1.10 m and 1.20 m classes. Children on Horses will run after the 148 cm classes on Sunday 28th April. Friday nights training show for horses and ponies which improves ability, stamina and performance continues on Friday nights at 6.30 pm 50 cm – 1.10 m classes.
