Competitors Race To SJI Horse League at Connell Hill

Saturday saw the second leg of this May League at Connell Hill, where competitors must jump at two legs to qualify for the final on Saturday 6^th June at 10.00 am.  The sun beamed upon the tracks making a most resplendent array of colour in the huge outdoor arena with a few sporadic showers during the early morning classes.  The very experienced judge, Mrs Janet Currie, kick started the show with the 80 cm class with the first double clears of the day claimed by ladies on their own horses, Joanne Wilkinson, from Bellaghy, on ‘Yellow Moon’ and Stephanie Doherty, from Eglinton, on ‘Beechmount Champ’.  It was then knees up as the 90 cm class set off with Michael Lennon, from Ballyclare, on his own horse ‘Echos Dancer’ took the first double clear.  The eminent neat 1.0 m class saw some very stylish masterly rounds of jumping with Suzanne Posnett, on Sarah-Jane Alexander’s, ‘Neat Kaleidoscope, and Paul Tang, on Nicola Tang’s, ‘Neat Moonshadow’ end the class with double clears.  Course Designer, Mr Alistair Megahey proficiently set the challenging 1.10 m class which saw young athlete Laura Millar jump the first double clear on, Gillian Millar’s, ‘Romeo (KWPN)’.  As the day wore on the topping arenas, due to meticulous nurturing, offered superb comfort riding for both horse and rider as they warmed up to skilfully jump their challenge with Kevin Mackey, on Helena O’Kane’s, ‘Legavallons Moonshine’ take the honours of first place in the 1.20 m class and Lisa Boyle, on her own, ‘Bannside Boy’ take a very close second.  With racing being the name of the day where better to witness this daring feat aboard a majestic animal than at Connell Hill for the conclusive 1.30 m class which saw Shannon MacKenzie zoom home taking poll position on, Karen MacKenzie’s, ‘Dyolita’, Paul Caves on, his own, ‘Quinten’ scooping second and Lisa Boyle take a well deserved third on her ‘Bannside Boy’.  Jumping continues next Saturday 23^rd May at 10.00 am, 80 cm – 1.30 m for the third leg of this league at Connell Hill.
