The Wexford teenager, ranked tenth in the world, piloted Quainton Stud’s 11 year-old gelding Quiet Easy 4 to an early lead and despite the best efforts of a world class field romped home with a comfortable three second lead over Swiss challenger Pius Schwizer, who was riding Cameron Hanley’s former mount Newton du Haut Bois.
Allen collected just over 8,000 euro for his win, while the 52 year-old Swiss veteran earned 5,000 euro for his runner-up place. World number three, Germany’s Ludger Beerbaum, settled for third place against the Irish teenager, trailing behind by almost six seconds on the grey mare Chiara.
Allen, who finished third in the World Cup Finals last month after a string of international individual victories, is joined at Madrid by Offaly’s Darragh Kenny.
