McLaughlin and Javas Wild Child Scoop Poll Position at Connell Hill

The final qualifying leg of the ‘Spring SJI Horse League’ at Connell Hill saw riders jump their chosen challenges outdoors in glorious sunshine.  Course Designer, Nigel Jess, designed tracks, utilising the vast arena space, which required control and precision riding.  This thoroughly enjoyable action packed day commenced with Janene Gamble, from Ballyclare, mastering a double clear in the 80 cm class on her own ‘Lenamore Master Maguire’.  Clare Spillane-Pattison, from Tobermore, set the standard early in the 90 cm and 1.0 m classes jumping the first double clear rounds in both challenges on ‘Anne Spillanes’ ‘Cor De La’.  As the day progressed Nigel and the arena crew adjusted the courses with the sun beaming down upon the jumps making a most majestic setting with a rainbow of colour amidst the rural countryside.  Revelling in this sun drenched day John McLaughlin, from Eglinton, stole the remaining part of the day claiming the first double clear in the 1.10 m challenge on his own ‘Lincourt Lux’ and then confidently jumped first in the 1.20 m challenge claiming double clear.  So with this achievement tucked under his saddle John took the 1.30 m challenge scooping poll position on ‘Mary McLaughlins’ ‘Javas Wild Child’, Suzanne Posnett winning a well deserved second on ‘Beth Armstrongs’ ‘Orchard Echo’ and John Higgins third on his own ‘KEC Freefalling’.  The final of this league is next Saturday, 25^th April, at 10.00 am and promises to be a most exciting competitive day, with the May League commencing on Saturday 2^nd May, 16^th, 23^rd and 30^th May, final on Saturday 6^th June.
